Did you know that NBA players have lives off the court? *pauses for response* Yea, me neither! JK, we all knew that because people are people, and professional basketball players are humans just like you and I. Just with freakish athletic ability. Oh, and some have 500 square foot sneaker closets.

The voyeuristic want to know more about what famous people do in their down time is a bug that will likely never die, so the NBA is teaming up with American Express to give the people what they want with a new monthly series called Off The Court. Each month, the league is choosing one extracurricular category and diving into the many ways their players express their passions for things other than basketball. This month’s feature? Style, DUH! And they’re kicking things off with none other than Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo.

Nope, that’s not Rajon Rondo heading to Easter mass. He’s going to a game.

Much like the rest of the fashion forward NBA stars we follow regularly like LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Amar’e Stoudemire, Iman Shumpert, and of course, Russell Westbrook, Rondo treats the walk into the arena for games like his own personal runway. Unlike those other dudes, though, Rondo even embedded himself into the industry, and I’m not just talking about sitting front row at Fashion Week. In the summer of 2011, he interned at world renowned menswear magazine GQ to bone up on his style smarts. Looks like it worked because dude really knows how to work a shawl-collar cardigan—a huge departure from his over-sized polo shirts and jeans of his rookie days.

In the video, Rondo elaborates on his “collegiate fresh” personal style and what exactly it is about fashion that he loves. He defends some of the more over-the-top looks he’s worn in the past, all while traipsing about a beautiful showroom with rugged masculine details like leather couches and furnishings made of reclaimed wood. Check it all out for yourself and keep your eyes peeled at the 2-minute mark for a little coiffure cameo from his stylist Calyann Barnett!
