Miley Cyrus (Mostly) Covers Up For 2013 MTV EMA Performances

Beam me up, Miley! Miley Cyrus opened the 2013 MTV EMA by descending from outer space in a caged UFO contraption. The spherical spacecraft (which actually came from the Ziggo Dome ceiling, not space) spewed smoke and glowed with red and blue neon lights as Miley and her little lady co-pilot landed on stage. After they detached from their oxygen tubes and astronautical helmets (#spacesafety because we’ve all seen Gravity by now), Miley left the comfort of her in-flight leather barcalounger and immediately got to twerking with darkly-shrouded, disc-headed aliens to the tune of “We Can’t Stop.”

Wearing a knee-length, long-sleeve silver metallic dress and holographic creepers, we were SO SURE Miles would tear off a layer to reveal something scandalous at any moment during her short performance. Let’s be honest, these days, Miley never wears that much material for long. (See also: the itty-bitty, backless halter dress she JUST wore on red carpet). But alas, she stayed fully clothed for the entirety of her brief opening.

For her second song of the night, Miley stripped down to a white one-piece and sang a beautiful rendition of “Wrecking Ball” in front of a giant screen that showed her crying on loop and made us feel feelings. It was very reminiscent of her video for the song, but, you know, with clothes. Cyrus accessorized her mesh-sleeved, iridescent inset leotard (which, thanks to its particularly high cut, was giving us major ’80s Jane Fonda Workout vibes) with a gold chain Chanel belt and white platform heels. And can we just say, OMG SO LEGGY.

Were you surprised Miley stayed (relatively) tame for the 2013 MTV EMA? Which one of her performance outfits do you like the best?
