‘The Carrie Diaries’ Fashion: What Carrie And Co. Wore

On last night’s episode of The Carrie Diaries, Carrie and Walt ended their spectacular summer in the city, Larissa and Samantha almost came to blows, and Sebastian made major moves for Carrie. We spoke to the show’s costume designer, Eric Daman, as we’ve been doing since the beginning of the season, to get the deets on who wore what, when, and why.

Carrie is reluctant to head back to Castlebury, which makes sense: she has ’80s NYC style down. Eric said, “Carrie looks right at home in her NYC digs. Her ’Cruel Summer’ safari romper and totally awesome polka dot crop top give her ’Karma Chameleon’ appeal, a style study in harmonizing set design and costumes.”

Summer in the city is also ending for Walt. The matching blue on Carrie and Walt’s shirts was totally intentional because Eric wanted to make it clear that “Carrie and Walt are 2 peas in a pod.” He told us, “Besties’ styles have a way of influencing each other and these BFFs are totally connected after spending a summer in the city as roomies. Carrie keeps it girlie with cropped dots and Walt butches it up in sporty stripes.”

Drama ensues when Carrie tries to introduce Larissa and Samantha. The two almost come to physical blows, but it’s their fashion that really clashes. Samantha, Eric said, “flaunts her video vixen style disrupting Larissa’s zen palette. She throws a 1-2 punch in her rockin’ leopard tank, white wash micro mini and studded belt!” Larissa on the other hand, gets her “couture claws are out in her Asiatic ensemble: a floral kimono inspired tunic gets Larissa-fied with a wooden statement necklace and origami fascinator.

Back in Castlebury, Carrie is thrown completely out of her zen zone when she and Sebastian are alone in a classroom. The two get prettttty hot and heavy in the classroom, only to be caught by a teacher and sent to the principal’s office. At least Carrie looked cute for her first trip to the principal’s office! As a senior, Carrie is totally allowed to wear her sheer, lipstick print kiss shirt to school. There was a not-so minor detail on the shirt that may have gotten Sebastian’s attention more than the viewers realized: the “’I love you, I love you not’ print detail [on Carrie’s shirt] really says it all.” Carrie and Sebastian are so the Romeo and Juliet of the 1980s.

Sebastian, aka “hair god,” (seriously, his hair itself is swoon-inducing) makes his romantic gesture heavy on the style by “trading in his passion for plaid for a fashion-friendly Carrie-fied polka dot, short sleeve, chambray shirt.”
