At first glance, the sophisticated red gown Taylor Swift wore to this year’s CMA Awards seemed pretty predictable. I mean, let’s be honest: she’s been known to rock full-skirted, feminine frocks a time or two (or ten) and this Elie Saab piece ~appears~ to be no different.
The ornate, crystal detailing, the demure neckline, the ample train—don’t get us wrong, the girl looks gorgeous. But it feels a little safe, no? NOPE. Further inspection reveals a dramatic, plunging back with The Most Perfect gathers that accentuate her tiny waist. Swoooooon. Taylor accessorized the business-in-front-party-in-the-back gown with stunning Lorraine Schwartz jewels, Jimmy Choo heels and a delicate chignon. Needless to say, we’re into it. (And hello! It’s red. Because, you know, Red. Heh. *sigh*)

For her awards show performance, Taylor traded in her signature high-waisted short-shorts for a semi-sheer, romantic black gown. Hold up. Does this mean she’s retiring the graphic print tees, too?! Where’s the perky ponytail? The sparkle, the glitz, the razzle-dazzle?! WHATEVS. This super elegant ensemble befit the occasion since Taylor recruited country music LEGENDS Eric Gardner, Alison Krauss, Vince Gill, Sam Bush and Edgar Meyer to orchestrate an acoustic version of her multi-platinum single, “Red.” Each musician wore corresponding dark shades to complement the mood-lighting and the gold back-drop onstage.
Later in the show, T. Swizzle was honored with the CMA Pinnacle Award, which recognizes groundbreaking country music artists who’ve had a positive impact on the industry. With congratulatory video tributes from Mick Jagger to Reese Witherspoon and even Justin Timberlake, viewers got a solid 7 minutes of Swifty’s signature surprised face. Oh, the supercuts to come!
Which look did you like better: red on the red carpet or black for her performance of “Red?”
