Rihanna Models River Island Winter Collection In Greece

It feels like just yesterday we first heard about Rihanna’s final collection with River Island. Oh wait, LOL, it was yesterday. My bad. Hours after the announcement, Rih held an impromptu fashion show (every day is a fashion show for badgalriri, whether in Abu Dhabi or Greece) to debut some of the looks in the best way she knows how: modeling them herself.

In the behind-the-scenes video from yesterday, Rih promised the collection would be full o’ florals and, based on this first look, she has definitely delivered. Despite being in Greece, where it’s, like, 80 degrees, RiRi broke out a dark floral, velvet crop top and matching pants. I’m not sure a head-to-toe velvet look would work for everyone, but it, obviously, looks ah-may-zing on Rihanna. She looks ready to go to bed but also go to a party at the same time? A winning combo, IMHO. Each of these pieces could easily be dressed up or down this winter in freezing places like New York (velvet/turtleneck/long pants), or somewhere warmer like, IDK, Athens.

Rihanna’s second look is also velvet, in the form of a maxi dress. She wore the halter top dress to pose seductively on rocks/sightsee, which confirms my long-held belief that Rihanna and I wear the same things to see the sights: full-length gowns in luxurious fabrics.

The third look from the collection was more climate appropriate: black knit… “shorts” as Rihanna calls them. Though they may be hard to incorporate into winter in places that get cold (maybe paired with very thick tights they’d be okay?), they look great in Greece. Oh, they also probably look great because Rihanna is wearing them.

Rih didn’t stick exclusively to her own designs on her trip: she posed in a “turquoise store” in, appropriately, a gold-print, turquoise headband, jacket, and matching skirt by Japanese brand GIZA. Steven Gomillion and Dennis Leupold, the photographers who are travelling with Rih and are responsible for all the gorgeous shots she’s posted in the past week, including this one, are killin’ it on Instagram. Professional photos of Rihanna are breaking up my feed very nicely: banana bread, Rihanna, sunset, Rihanna, kale salad, etc. It’s an addition I could easily get used to. Please keep ’em coming, guys!

The final Rihanna X River Island collection isn’t out until November 7th, but in many an Instagram caption, Rih announced the collection will be available for presale on October 31st (trick or treat yourself to new velvet togs). The GIZA pieces aren’t online yet either (UGH!), but we will be keeping a close eye out for them because we are o-b-s-e-s-s-e-d.
