TLC Reveals Why Costuming For Their 'CrazySexyCool' Biopic Was (Relatively) Easy

Praise be to VH1 and TLC for this biopic (airing tonight at 9 p.m. EST)! Not only does it give us a look at some previously untold TLC history—by way of Drew Sidora, Keke Palmer, and Lil MamaCrazySexyCool: The TLC Story afforded us the opportunity to talk to T-Boz and Chilli themselves about the wardrobing process for the film and the group's rise to style infamy which maaaayyyy or may not have caused this writer to go into cold sweats immediately following this interview. It's not every day you get the chance to talk to your heroes, OK??

We were really impressed with how accurately the biopic's costuming reflected TLC's outfits from music videos and other public appearances back in the day, and as it turns out, T-Boz and Chilli unearthed their ORIGINAL LOOKS from the archives so they could be used as direct references for the film's wardrobe. Nothing cuts research time like having the real deal outfits you're emulating on-hand, right?

Another huge time-saver? The fact that the '90s are so hot right now. Yep, the '90s revival doesn't just mean this is a good time to air a TLC biopic, it's a good time to outfit one, too. "In '92 in 'Ain't Too Proud To Beg,' we were rocking Doc Martens," T-Boz said, "and it's funny—when they did the movie—they're back in style, so it was easy to get, like, a boatload of them and even in more fabulous colors than they had in the '90s."

Aside from wardrobing the film, we also got to talk to the ladies about their iconic style in more general terms, including all-time favorite outfits and what it was really like walking around sagging those big, baggy pants. Peep it all in our interview above, and don't miss the television premiere of CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story at 9 p.m. EST tonight on VH1!
