The Top 10 NYFW Shows That Took Nail Art To The Next Level

Yeah, yeah, we know New York Fashion Week is officially over, but we needed a FULL weekend of recovery before we dove in and picked out the top nail art looks from all the shows—and it also happens to be Manicure Monday. (How perfect!) We have to admit, though, that this year we definitely saw designs of a whole different variety. Sure, we peeped some straight-up half moon manis (Peter Som!) and glitter gradients (Nicole Miller!), but overall we were incredibly impressed with how much designers were willing to experiment with their tips. From mechanical 3D nails to purposely-imperfect manis, we found 10 shows that totally took nail art to the next level. Check ’em out below!

THE BLONDS

OK, this image alone speaks volumes about the diversity of nail designs The Blonds had in just ONE NYFW show. Their Tweety Bird-inspired collection certainly included some on-theme bright yellow designs, but they also incorporated clear acrylics and—get this—a mechanical accent nail that came with a clear hinged door (top right). UH HUH, you can thank CND for that lovely creation.

LIBERTINE

At Libertine, they certainly weren’t shy to reflect their balls-out, bright punk aesthetic in an equally head-turning nail design. Butter London created black and metallic foil tips that were accented with mini poms-poms and jewels all the way down the finger.

CHRISTIAN SIRIANO

The nails at Christian Siriano’s show caught our attention for a totally DIFFERENT reason. His pale yellow on nude set proved that you don’t have to be painstakingly perfect to get a really cool effect on your digits. Plus, the colorway is totally on-point for spring!

CUSHNIE ET OCHS

We can TOTALLY get down with some pointy stiletto tips, and we loved the white and metallic mani we peeped at Cushnie Et Ochs. They decided to add a band of silver near the base of the nail to give it a badass-yet-glam feel that we’re dying over.

TRACY REESE

There’s a soft spot in our hearts for designers that vary their nail art from model to model, so we had to give it up for Tracy Reese and her graphically on-point checkered mani. She picked a bold base with a simple black design. Notice how it doesn’t have to be totally perfect!

KATE SPADE

Kate Spade is known for their killer clutches, so of course they’d need some decked out manis to match. This season, they opted for super chic white stiletto nail with a stripe of red (or yellow!) and silver metallic foil only at the very tip. If this is the new French manicure, we’re totally on board.

REBECCA MINKOFF

Rebecca Minkoff decided to have some fun with Southwestern-inspired nail art for her spring 2014 show! She picked a bold orange base color and added skull accents along the ring and pointer fingers for a hint of flavor without going too over the top.

TESS GIBERSON

We gotta give it up for Tess Giberson because she basically created the perfect anti-nail art manicure. She painted the nails black, but swiped off most of the color before it dried leaving behind only a touch of color around the cuticles.

DESIGUAL

Sure, we’ve seen half moons, ruffians, and everything in between, but Desigual decided to switch it up by putting the circle on the TOP half of the nail. Simple and effective. How have we never thought of this before?

TIBI

Tibi started with matte gray nails and added a simple (and uneven!) black line across each finger. We love that it’s not perfect but still looks effortlessly cool.

BONUS: THOM BROWNE

We couldn’t do a NYFW nail art roundup without at least mentioning the manicure situation over at Thom Browne. Basically, he took latex gloves and added press-ons on TOP to give it a seriously creepy effect. Regardless of what you think, we can definitely say we’ve never seen this before.
