Ugh. You guys. Even classy dame extraordinaire, Carolina Herrera, is doing crop-tops now—so ladies, start your crunches! While I’d hoped to spend the Fall/Winter 2013 season hibernating alongside warm, heavy dishes, it seems as if my plans have finally been foiled, thanks to the High Priestess of High Society. Not even my “stylish” sweatshirts can save me now. *SIGH* Granted, her crop-tops were lovely and some came paired with floor-length skirts, but there were bare abs, nonetheless.

However, Herrera also debuted a gorgeous collection of polished gowns and delicate cocktail dresses for Spring 2014, as expected by students of the designer’s long-standing institution of sophistication. There were warm, earthy colors, ornate embellishments and graphic, geometric prints that created an optical illusion of sorts with multiple layers of light-as-air fabrics. Nearly every piece drifted with feather-like fluidity, and it was that aspect of the collection that Javier Peral chose to focus on when choosing songs for Herrera’s show. Wanna kick back and relax with Peral’s ethereal runway soundtrack? Of course you do. Check it (and the sound stylist’s inspiration) after the jump! Crunches can wait.

“Inspired by the Kinetic art movement of Venezuelan artists Carlos Cruz-Diez and Jesús Rafael Soto, Carolina created a collection where printed, sheer fabrics delivered optical effects, giving the clothes a lot of movement and a multidimensional experience for the viewer. The music was inspired by the lightness of the fabrics, rather than the geometric prints or kinetic energy. The show opener was a beautiful piece by composer Rob Simonsen and appears on the soundtrack for the film The Spectacular Now. Playing along with it were Owen Pallett with his take on neoclassical pop, and the light, but epic Ulrich Schnauss remix of Zoon van snooK’s ’The Gaits.’
