Jeremy Scott And A$AP Rocky Talk Joining Forces On Adidas Originals Sneaker Collaboration

Jeremy Scott Teams Up With A$AP Rocky

Some things in life are just meant to be, and a Jeremy Scott x A$AP Rocky fashion collab is definitely one of those inevitable things. (Though, for the record, Jeremy's said he's open to a rap collab, as well.) The bold runway designer and Harlem-born MC recently announced that they've teamed up on a special edition pair of adidas Originals sneakers, and ever since that news broke, we've been dying to pick their brains about the project. Lucky for us, we had just that opportunity this past weekend at the adidas Originals store on New York City's Wooster street just before a meet-and-greet attracting a crowd of 300 some-odd fans for autographs and pictures with the JS Wings 2.0 Black Flag creators.

The dynamic duo revealed that from their first meeting—for that unforgettable Warhol/Basquiat-conjuring Complex magazine shoot wherein they were both clad in head-to-toe adidas Originals—they knew they wanted to do something together. "For me, Rocky is just so sincere, so genuine, so passionate, and also, so humble," Jeremy told us, "and you know, that's what always I think stuck out for me when I first met him." The admiration, of course, is mutual, as Rocky's been wearing Jeremy Scott designs since long before he had a "F*****' Problems" lament played on the radio, let alone was a certified fashion killa. He searched eBay frontwards and backwards for Jeremy's designs, and as A$AP Ferg told us at the event, "We really look up to Jeremy Scott. We love his fashion, we grew up wearing his stuff, so finally, it's happening."

The shoe itself is a perfect marriage of the two icons' distinct personal aesthetics. Jeremy comes through in his hallmark winged sneaker design, and Rocky through the all-black color palette and modified American flag motif. "I just thought, 'What would make Rocky happy?'" Jeremy revealed, "and then, I was just looking at the album cover, and it just hit me. 'Oh, they're all black flags,' and that was it!" Rather than a full leather upper, Scott also explained that the kicks are constructed of a bulletproof nylon which has then been embroidered with five-point stars, a structural nod to the A$AP Mob's tough (but still fashionable) exterior. "And they're cozy, too. Did you try 'em on?" Rocky added, "Very cozy. Very very rare." Watch the video to hear the dudes (and some of the event's guests like A$AP Twelvy and the New York Knicks' Iman Shumpert) talk about the collab themselves!
