Fresh off her big weekend at New York Fashion Week, Lady Gaga headed to Good Morning America to perform “Applause.” At the VMAs we saw Gaga recreate the “Applause” video, but on GMA, she took a different approach and instead of playing different iterations of herself, dressed as characters from The Wizard Of Oz.

Gaga began the performance dressed as Dorothy: blue gingham dress and the sparkly red boots she slept in bed with last night. No, really, it’s a pre-performance tradition. Looks pretty uncomfortable, IMHO. She has on a black bob wig, her septum piercing is in, and since no Dorothy is complete without her little dog, Gaga had Fozzi in a basket on her arm. Her backup dancers were also dressed as Oz characters, but, obviously, spruced up: the lion, for instance, wore a fur coat. Glamorous lion.

After embarking on their trip down the Yellow Brick Road, Gaga transforms from Dorothy to Glinda the Good Witch, complete with a pink taffeta dress and wand. Instead of the soft brown curls Glinda has in the movie, Gaga opted for her yellow, root-heavy wig, accessorized with a sparkly, silver star barrette.

The third look is simple: Gaga stripped from her dress and wig to reveal a black tank-top and leggings, and her black wig cap. She battles the evil witch by snatching her long green wig, and dances around in it for a few seconds before running offstage to switch into her final look.

Her final look is an homage to her past. It’s…DOROTHY! Never one to repeat outfits, this Gaga-fied Dorothy has on a blue gingham jacket with shoulder pads. Not just any shoulder pads, but, like, ones larger than football players wear. It looks like two shoe boxes were shoved into her jacket and, hey, maybe they were. #improvisation She has added her fave brown, wavy, “Bottichelli Babe” wig to the look, and threw on an enormous bow made from the same material as her jacket. “We’re not in Kansas any more, we’re in ARTPOP.” – Lady Gaga, September 9, 2013.
