Rihanna's Costume Designer Adam Selman Talks NYFW Debut [VIDEO]

Adam Selman Debuts First Solo Line During NYFW

If you don't know Adam Selman's name by now, you better start memorizing it. We don't mean to sound bossy, but the former Britney Spears and Michael Jackson costume designer is seriously making his mark in the fashion world. Not only did he co-design Rihanna's spring and fall River Island collections this year and create killer custom pieces for her Diamonds World Tour (that red, yellow and black bustier number? #dead), but he also designed Ri's GORGE slinky white 2012 VMA gown and those unforgettable Victoria's Secret on-stage ensembles. This week, Adam decided to take his stellar design skills a step further and debut his first ever solo collection at NYFW (!!!). Of course we had to stop by and check out the goods firsthand, and, lucky for us, Adam even chatted with us about his fashion week debut.

The 15 sexy sportswear looks, which include everything from satin jogging shorts to plunging one-pieces to twill trench coats, were inspired by the 1981 HBO special Beautiful Baby, Beautiful and the ultra glam Cosmopolitan covers from the '70s. (The bright blue makeup and wind machines were a dead giveaway.) Adam said the collection was created with the help of a "killer team"--creative director Jen Brill and stylist/boyfriend Mel Ottenberg. He told us, "I like it when a woman can throw something on and make it super casual and easy, even if it's expensive," and that he wanted to create something "super fun and super creative, and this is what happened." Well, we're totally into it and can't wait to see what comes next. To watch the full interview with Adam, check out the video above!
