Our Top 10 Favorite Justin Timberlake Music Video Wardrobes Of All-Time In GIFs

Don't be so quick to *hold a beat* walk away. We have some BIG Video Music Awards news that's gonna rock your body, world, late-August schedule, EVERYTHING. Justin Timberlake (as in THE Justin Timberlake) is performing at the 2013 VMAs in Brooklyn's Barclays Center on Sunday, August 25! Not only will JT be hitting the VMA stage for the first time in 6 years, but MTV is also doling out highest honors to Timberlake, presenting him with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. From his formative days in *NSYNC to this year's hotly anticipated (TWO PART) 20/20 Experience, from Justified to "SexyBack," Justin Timberlake's footprint on pop culture, especially in the music video space, is gigantic. SO, is there any better excuse than this to take a look back at Justin's contributions to music video fashion? (Answer: Nope.) Here are our top 10 favorite Justin Timberlake music video wardrobes of ALL-TIME. In GIFs!

10) 'I WANT YOU BACK' - *NSYNC

Back in 1997, a little 5-man singing group called *NSYNC dropped their eponymously titled debut album. On that record was a track (#8, if we're getting really specific) called "I Want You Back." (P.S. If you don't get goosebumps during the boys' first staggered chord, you should probably close out of this browser tab now because this is not the post for you.) It was the group's first official single, and our music video introduction to Justin Timberlake. And what an intro it was. Single Sinbad earring, ripstop nylon jackets (like all the boys at school used to wear), an evident appreciation for over-sized sporty separates, and yea, the baby blues didn't hurt either.

9) 'CRY ME A RIVER' - JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE

After *NSYNC, JT embarked on what has become a colossally successful crossover solo career. One of our favorite songs and music videos from his premier reinvention stage is now and will forever be "Cry Me A River," a Timbaland-produced kiss-off track inspired by the end of his relationship with Britney Spears. It was moody, somber, but still a little bit vengeful, and accordingly, Justin was clad in all black and soaking wet from rain. The static shots with his hood up are THE BEST.

8) 'MY LOVE' - JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE

We're all very familiar with the tailored, black-and-white steez of today's JT, but it's important to point out that, while the attitude behind it is new (and obviously, so is the music), it has a predecessor: Justin's "My Love" music video. It's not the grown up, super-suave Tom Ford of "Suit & Tie," but there's a tartan vest, a collared shirt, and a long neck tie. Oh, and dancing. So. Much. Hypnotic. Dancing.

7) 'POP' - *NSYNC

Justin Timberlake has gone through about a billion hairstyles since the beginning of his boy band days, but the BIGGEST, most jaw-droppingly good one of the entire timeline (save maybe his current, very layed pompadour) HAS to be when he shaved his head for "Pop" and *NSYNC's Celebrity album. The fashion of this video—leather-look short-sleeved button-up + cut-off graphic tee + SWEAT WRISTBAND, and don't even get me started on that tonal checkerboard harlequin shirt—is, erm, questionable at best. But the haircut and his Lichtenstein backdrop beatbox at the end more than make up for it. Also, it was the early aughts (a.k.a. casualwear's DARKEST days).

6) 'LOVESTONED/I THINK SHE KNOWS INTERLUDE' - JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE

The more music videos we watch, the more we realize there's been a TON of foreshadowing for this new Timberlake suited and booted era. Take Justin's music video for "LoveStoned/I Think She Knows Interlude." The first three-and-a-half minutes picture JT in formalwear obscured by sound waves, but it's the last two mins that are the vid's sartorial peak. Just look at Justin in that tonal gray suit (right down to the dress oxfords!). Standing solo in a vaguely Tron-esque computer-generated set. Crisp, clean, calming, well-tailored.

5) 'ROCK YOUR BODY' - JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE

Pretty sure the GIFs alone of "Rock Your Body" do the best job of illustrating the ~style~ in this music video (LOOK at that belt and wallet chain combo OMG), but I'll add a few words under here out of courtesy. Justin's shaved head got a reprise for his solo career (he also beatboxes in this video...subliminal connection?), but this time, he added a little angled cut at the crown AND a very short goatee. The all-white outfit pops against the box of colored lights that makes up the set, but we really just want to talk about those waist accessories.

4) 'THINKING OF YOU (I DRIVE MYSELF CRAZY)' - *NSYNC

Sure, I could talk about the very TLC circa "Creep"-reminiscent silk pajamas the dudes of *NSYNC wear in the video for "Thinking Of You (I Drive Myself Crazy)." The fact that Justin's accessorizing sleepwear with solitaire diamond studs and a monogrammed ice piece. But we all know why this has really breached the top 5: that hair. Who cares about hindsight? This hair spurned every (EVERY!) boy in our sixth grade classes to bleach their hair, too, and we loved it. #unapologetic

3) 'LIKE I LOVE YOU' - JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE

Ahhhh, "Like I Love You." The debut of solo dolo, not a boy, not yet a man, Justin Timberlake. Will we ever let a crochet popcorn beanie with a scalloped hem slide as quickly as this one? Probably not. (The bandana + trucker hat is not excusable outside of 2002, though. Sorry, bb.) Also of note: that fedora-sporting, leather sweatpants outfit from the dance number? He re-wore it for his 2002 VMA performance.

2) 'IT'S GONNA BE ME' - *NSYNC

OK, so the head-to-toe bleached and studded denim is already a risky look. Not to mention the plastic-y curls and complexion amplified to Tan Mom shades. But for the record, it's meant to be exaggerated because they're DOLLS. All told, we actually kind of want to borrow that jacket. SO???

1) 'SUIT & TIE (FT. JAY Z)' - JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE

Finally, the pinnacle of Justin Timberlake music video fashun is, OF COURSE, "Suit & Tie." This is covetable married man swag to the MAX. Satin peak lapels. Louboutin dress shoes. Bow ties. Ringing in the morning in a lightly tousled but still ironed collared shirt. A cameo from a masseuse. Free-falling in spectator penny loafers and a gingham neck tie. It's everything. And so is JT. And we can't wait to see how he turns up for the 2013 VMAs.
