Lady Gaga and Nicola Formichetti: BFFs forever.

Lady Gaga's style has gone through so many tweaks and transformations but has always remained equal parts iconic and arresting. Much of that is thanks to Mother Monster's innate inimitable steez, but a heavy-handed pour of that is also attributable to longtime stylist/Haus of Gaga Fashion Director Nicola Formichetti. Apparently, the transition from Creative Director of Mugler to his current standing as Artistic Director of Diesel isn't the only change in roles for Formichetti—he told WWD at a Uniqlo launch event in Tokyo that his involvement in Lady Gaga's signature headline-making style is far less frequent now.
In his own words, Nicola said to WWD, "She's going to be my BFF forever, but my ex-assistant Brandon is heading that project." "Brandon," of course, refers to Brandon Maxwell who was inducted into the Haus of Gaga in 2009 as Nicola's stylist. He's also the same Brandon Maxwell who WWD refers to as "the Haus fashion director" in this recent interview with Gaga herself. "I'm too busy with [other commitments]," Formichetti added, "I've done two albums with her, it's been like five years, and you know, I'm always going to be involved somehow, but I cannot do it every day. She changes 12 times a day; it's insane."
While we're not 100% positive that Nicola was exaggerating for effect about the changing 12 times in a day thing (if she can wear 6 outfits for the 2009 VMAs, a show that only lasts around 2 hours, what happens over the course of 24 hours?), we wonder about whether that might even be true anymore. Outside bras and Crayola face paint withstanding, Brandon has said Gaga's new ARTPOP steelo is "more toned down and pulled back and chic," and from what we've seen with our own eyes, it's definitely more naked. This new era of Gaga might be a more subtle, stripped down one. OR she and Brandon are setting us up for the craziest wardrobe yet. Only time will tell!
