Whether she’s shunning LBDs for oversized Tupac T-shirts or chopping off her trademark long hair with a knife, Sky Ferreira is all about pushing the fashion boundaries these days… and obviously, we love her for it. ASOS clearly gets the memo, too, since it’s nabbed the “Everything Is Embarrassing” singer as its brand new cover girl! Sky fronts the July issue of the U.K. retailer’s monthly magazine, giving some serious ’tude and wearing one of her fave designers, THE one and only Mr. Jeremy Scott. Straddling two seats on a school bus, hands to the ceiling (which, as you know, is a major safety no-no), Sky’s badass pose really speaks for itself. But when you throw in her “so what?” expression and top it off with Scott’s oversized sweater that reads “Adults suck then you are one,” well, consider this rebel yell coming through loud and clear.

After all, it’s always a little tempting to break the rules, but leave it to Sky to really tip us over the edge and make defying authority look even more fun than it already is. At least part of this cool girl rebel-ish has to be chalked up to her clothes in the shoot, from the graphic patterns to the slouchy plaid to the crop tops. Sky tells the mag that she’s had a longstanding love affair with fashion, an obsession with niche and avante-garde magazines that date back to her school days. “I’ve always loved fashion… I’ve always collected magazines, even in the ninth grade, I would collect i-D and Dazed. And I still buy Italian Vogue, even though I can’t read a word. I had all of Carine Roitfeld’s issues of Paris Vogue, that was how I fell in love with Lara Stone, because she used to put her on the cover all the time.”

She might only be 20 and have missed much of the decade, but if there’s one thing we know about the star, it’s that she LOVES the ’90s. It makes total sense, then, that she’s showing off her signature schoolgirl-grunge look inside the spread with printed miniskirts, sheer blouses, and more. The result is a look that’s trendy but still effortless, and one that we can’t wait to copy. Get schooled by Sky in the new issue of ASOS, online now!
