Selena Gomez Says ‘Come & Get It’ Red Lipstick Was ‘A Big Decision’

If you’re anything like me, every time you hear Selena Gomez’s “Come & Get It,” you have the hook stuck in your head for DAYS. Suffice it to say, it’s been basically half-a-week since Selly did her thang on the Billboard stage, and I’m STILL muttering “nananana”s under my breath in the middle of conversations. I’m sure you’ve been playing the music video on endless repeat (just as I have at my desk), and I’m pretty confident the general consensus among all who set eyes on the clip is that this new, grown-up look is a good one on Selena. The maturity of her “Come & Get It” steez is due in part to excellent risk-taking couture but is mostly thanks to that KILLER bright red lipstick.

In a recent interview with Y100, Selena reflected on the bold-yet-sophisticated beauty look, saying, “For the longest time, my makeup artist told me that she wanted to do a darker lip on me. She wanted to wait because it is actually something you should do when you’re older.” *ears perk up to attention* So this was maybe a strategic makeup move? “I don’t know how to put on red lipstick without somebody helping me because I would make a mess of it, so she actually helped me,” Selena explained, “I’ve known her since I was 16. She’s been my makeup artist forever, so [the red lipstick] was a big decision actually.” Iiiiinteresting. When we think back on Sel’s most recent red carpet appearances, there is definitely a lack of major lip pigment, but that’s also not to say that we can’t ever picture her with it.

A quick Google and our suspicions were confirmed. Selena has definitely worn red (or at the very least, reddish) lipstick before, but only a handful of times and maybe never quite so vibrant a hue of matte a texture. Also, umm…

Her (terrifying, highly unrealistic) Madame Tussauds wax figure is wearing red lipstick.

Selenators, I’m not trying to SKEWER HER. This is not a STYLE STING. But it does make me a lot more curious about Selena’s attitude toward makeup and what other beauty risks she might take in the future. Try out some funky neon eyeliner? Goth chic? Bleached eyebrows? Give those blue lips another spin? Would she want to go makeup-testing together?!?? Consider this MY open invitation. When you’re ready, come and get it, nananananaaa
