Solange Schools Us (Twice!) On Prints-On-Prints Dressing

2 events, 2 different prints-on-prints outfits. Because Solange is awesome like that.

Solange’s trademark patterned style may not have technically begun with *that* brick motif pantsuit (a quick Getty search shows she was test-driving the look long before that), but let’s be real for a sec. Ever since the singer won us over with last fall’s “Losing Youmusic video, her outfit choices reflect one seriously steadfast fashion philosophy: more prints are DEFINITELY merrier. From her Met Gala Suno gown to those matchy ladylike performance outfits, this is a star who’s taken a very particular look and totally owned it. And now, proving just how versatile these wild patterns can really be, Solange has given us an extra dose of wardrobe inspiration with two very different twists on the trend.

Earlier this week the star did the suit thing at Cannes, working a Roberto Cavalli silk two-piece look from Spring 2013. Paired with a classic white blouse, the wide-leg pants and awesome graphic blazer are red carpet dressing at its absolute coolest. Plus, a bonus: considering the outfit is essentially a high-fashion version of pajamas, it’s basically the comfiest thing EVER. Whereas her Cannes ensemble swayed on the decidedly formal side (this is a swanky event, after all), Solange shook things up a bit last night when she performed at the Intermix 20th anniversary party in a coral jumpsuit with allover blue patterns— which she matched to her eye makeup, because obviously.

Thanks to Miley, Cara, and pretty much the rest of Hollywood’s A-list, we’re already well aware that onesies are having a major moment. But if twerking it in a unicorn fleece isn’t quite your thing, well, let’s just say it’s time to take notes from Solange’s look last night and play dress-up.
