Sequins. In a movement marked by studs, zippers, and razors, they’re not exactly the MOST punk-centric outfit embellishment we can think of. But then again, Jennifer Lawrence fully admitted on the Met Gala’s vogue.com red carpet livestream tonight that “I never went through the punk phase. I guess tonight I’m supposed to say ’yes’ but no. I was a cheerleader.” And this honesty, Jenn, is exactly why we love you. The actress might not be a reformed punk, but she proved her star power nonetheless in a stunning strapless gown by Dior.
The shoulder-baring, full-skirted silhoulette is one we’re used to seeing on the Academy Award winner, and we can’t help but be reminded of her Miss Dior ad campaign with that delicate veil. However, this time there’s a slightly edgy side peeking through all that luxe femininity, thanks to key touches like the dark color palette and bold red lipstick. After all, if you can’t dive headfirst into the theme, baby steps are your next best bet…right?
The dress might be fit for royalty, but nobody can deny there’s some definite (albiet subtle) punk princess vibes running throughout. The floral appliques, intricate lace details and delicate beading ensure that THIS frock will never, ever, fall into that LBD category. This is Dior we’re talking about, after all. With pretty much no jewelry save for diamond earrings, Jennifer’s traffic-stopping ensemble truly speaks for itself.
