KIMYE ALERT. As soon as Kanye West and Kim Kardashian placed their pegs on the Met Gala red carpet for the kick off of the “Punk: Chaos To Couture” show, all of our eyes were on them. Partly because Yeezy has been known to rock the throw back punk uniform of the kilt, partly because what was girly girl Kim going to wear to rep the show theme? Well, here we are sitting pretty thinking we’ve got all things figured and—BAM!—the duo surprises us with some seriously unforeseen ’fits.

Kanye kept things simple and sexy, wearing a skinny black Givenchy suit sans tie. Wait… no tie to a black tie event? Yeah, Yeezy! This makes total sense. Punk don’t give no s**** about rules, right? Kim, who earnestly admitted on the red carpet to never having gone through a punk phase herself, graced her first Met Gala with perfect poise. The reality star, whose seven month pregnancy totally adds to her natural glow, looked absolutely fierce in an all-over floral Riccardo Tisci design. And when we say all over, we mean ALL over. As in, high-cut turtleneck, ankle length hem and (we think? maybe?) attached gloves. She capped off her ensemble with gold hardware on her heels, a sleek ponytail and a purple lip that brought out the dark details in her dress. Kim’s look is a perfect example of why we love the punk theme so much; it’s a blast to see our fave fashion stars interpreting the idea to match their own aesthetic. Kim’s get-up might not be as straight-forward punk as, say, Miley’s Billy Idol-inspired ’do, but it’s unexpected! And isn’t shock value a huge part of punk? Rock on, girl.
