A$AP Rocky’s ‘Wild For The Night’ Music Video: Look By Look

As purveyors of all things that intersect music and style, a brand new A$AP Rocky music video is a major event right here at MTV Style Headquarters. It’s not just because we all agree that dude is mad handsome with excellent bone structure and the kind of killer smile that only comes with warding off coffee for life, BUT ALSO because you can almost always be sure that a new video from this Harlem MC will yield a stacked lineup of ensembles and that it’ll be BEGGING to be broken down look by look. “Wild For The Night” features Rocky and Skrillex (and A$AP Ferg, A$AP Yams, and even a little A$AP Lou moment) on location in the Dominican Republic. From the cameos to the exotic locale, the short doesn’t disappoint in any department, especially not style. The video wardrobe runs the gamut from high fashion to streetwear (and in this case, a whole lot of a throwback collaboration that bridges them both). Thus, the little run-down we’re kicking off right now. Peep all 7 (yes, 7!) looks PLUS A$AP Rocky’s brand new music video for “Wild For The Night” featuring Skrillex after the jump!

STILL WEARING RUGGED BOOTS

Not only does Rocky interact with a cute kid named Peto (or playing a character named Peto, anyhow) in this opening scene, he showcases a rare bilingual moment, asking Peto what he thinks of the A$AP Mob in matchless Spanish. Also, he’s wearing that DKNY x Opening Ceremony exclusive ’90s throwback collection with a pair of seemingly immaculate Timbs. Ladies, start your engines.

VINTAGE GAULTIER FRAMES AND MAN-FLORALS

For his one beat off the stark black-and-white grind, Rocky wields double man-florals fearlessly with a matching Balenciaga button-up and bomber jacket set, cuffed white shorts, white shoes and socks, a plain white snapback and a pair of vintage Jean Paul Gaultier frames. His little man helper is also clad in man-floral (also Balenciaga Spring 2013—fancy, bb!) and JPG shades as he carries Rocky’s burnt orange Goyard overnight bag.

ROOFTOP MONOCHROMATICS

After the narrative-heavy shots, Rocky turns up on a rooftop, performing in monochromatics. On top of just being straight-up entertaining, we’re learning from this scene that Rocky may actually be onto a huge style secret. If your closet is brimming with stark black and white, everything automatically matches! Unlikely combinations like a DKNY x OC hoodie and mesh Pyrex Vision gym shorts worn over a skinny white pants situation go together seamlessly with very little effort.

Just in case you needed that full 360…

HAI, SKRILLEX

That line about Skrillex finally rolls around, and naturally, this is where the EDM demi-god makes his first appearance in the video. He’s wearing a black tee, black jeans, black wayfarers, and throwing up the rock devil horns hand sign. Duhhhhh.

DONNA KARAN BIKER GANG

Sure, they’re not the pastel Vespa scooters of Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers but any bikes other than these would look totally out of place in this setting. Also, sorry we’re not sorry that the peeing Calvin (sans Hobbes) sticker decal always gives us warm-and-fuzzies. Double also, seeing so many dudes clad in Donna Karana. TRIPLE also, while the other dudes are just wearing sweatshirts, Rocky fully commits, wearing the same full-body sweat jumpsuit that his Diamonds World Tour bestie Rihanna wore earlier this month. ZOMG, how cute would it be if these guys were sharing clothes/Rih was pilfering stuff from Rocky’s closet??

BUDDIES IN BASIC TEES

We like to think this plain white tee look by Rocky is his way of leveling with Skrillex in terms of fashion. Kind of like, “Look, man! I can do basics, too! It doesn’t always have to be Jil Sander and Rick Owens and Alexander Wang!” And then, Skrillex’s reaction would be just that: turning around and walking away.

PMF ON THE SNAPBACK

With all of this repping of other people’s products, we knew it was only a matter of time before Rocky started wearing his own stuff in his videos. Enter the PMF snapback. Naturally, this is black with white letters. All the better to match all of his other clothes.

REP YOUR CREW

The hat isn’t the only thing from A$AP Rocky’s official store to get the music video treatment, though. Ferg and Rocky both wear the “Old English” crewneck in those long hallway scenes where Skrillex is jumping all over the place, doing karate chops in the air and stuff.

DON’T FORGET A$AP PETO

Oh, yea, and A$AP Peto wears it, too.

LONG.LIVE.DEATH ROW RECORDS BEANIE

It only sees a few seconds of camera time, but Rocky’s undying love for this Death Row Records beanie is made unmistakably clear with this music video. The hat has been featured in Fat Joe’s “Yellow Tape,” Rocky’s own “Long.Live.A$AP,” an interview we did with him at Black Scale, and now “Wild For The Night.”
