It was the fashion mystery of the internet just mere days ago: WHO designed Katniss' wedding dress in these new The Hunger Games: Catching Fire character portraits? Well, the answer has emerged... and it's not who we (or anyone else, really) predicted! According to The Hollywood Reporter, the creation comes courtesy of Indonesian designer Tex Saverio. They got the scoop from the flick's costume designer herself, Trish Summerville, who revealed, "Katniss’ white gown is by a designer named Tex Saverio in Jakarta. He is amazing! I found his designs quite some time ago and saved his information for a perfectly fitting project, then came Catching Fire – perfect!" Inspired by a dress he had debuted earlier, which came adorned with a metal bodice, the wedding gown has a similar metal top. But THIS time, it's covered in Swarovski crystals, pieces rising up intended to represent fire, as well as Mockingjay-esque feathers.
Needles to say, the dress is absolutely epic. And adding to that epic-ness is the dramatic ruffled skirt, which Trish says "is very important for the twirling/ spinning Katniss does onstage, per Caesar Flickerman's request." AMAZING.
Other info we learned: Effie Trinket's red frock is indeed McQueen, and Peeta's cream-colored suit is by a Korean designer named Juunj. But the most surprising tidbit has to be the fact that Peeta's boots were crafted by none other than high fashion and (hip-hop fave) Rick Owens. Who knew Peeta and A$AP Rocky had so much in common?
