Ghoulish, Ectoplasmic Ecstasy at Jeremy Scott Fall 2013

You know how poltergeists haunt teens because they're attracted to the youth's SUPERCHARGED angst-laden energy? Well, Jeremy Scott was similarly drawn to the interaction betwixt ghouls and hormones if his monster-mashed up collection for AW 2013 gives any indication. There were ectoplasmic spatters, exposed brains and veiny, exploding eyeballs decorating sweaters that were complemented by Jack Skellington from A Nightmare Before Christmas-esque trousers and matching lace-up boots set to Beastie Boys' rambunctious "GIRLS." The scowling (yet ever lovely) Cara Delevigne marched out in creeper-soled sneaker-boots with a pointy Lydia Deetz up-do and a sweater featuring a wart-riddled, teeth-baring visage. There was also a healthy dose of amped-up, psychedelic punk-rock-meets-ska motifs by way of a neon two-tone, checkered boot under a floaty, fractal-ish skirt anchored by a black, scoop-neck jumper emblazoned with the graffiti'd words: TOO WEIRD TO LIVE. Word.

A huge, slimey anarchy symbol on the body of a sweater (with a similarly drippy yin yang and an ankh on the sleeves) strode down the Milk runway coupled with black, well-ventilated trousers with pre-fab holes at both knees. She of the perfect pout, Ms. Lindsey Wixson, gave pure evil-face as she looped the crowd dipped in a sweetheart-neckline mini hewn from a fabric decorated with cartoon tongues, tonsils and disembodied eyeballs. Of course, there was a purse to match. A twin zippered, cheetah-print, micro-skirt was coupled with an equally shrunken "Rescue Me" hoodie but judging from the badass attitude of the model, she was well capable of rescuing herself (and anyone else [shout out to Pretty Woman]). Blondie's "Rip Her To Shreds" and "X Offender" as well as The Cramps' "Surfin' Bird" rounded out the play list.

For anyone who found the Garbage Pail Kids aesthetic to not be their scene (who are you? Show yourselves! How COULD YOU?) there were subtler, ghostly details that I found to be endlessly clever without being too literal. Can we talk PHANTOM LIMBS? There was a brilliant, oversized, zippered, black, crew neck sweatshirt that featured cape holes in the front so the listless shirt arms would dangle alongside it. And then there was a sweater dress that I'd presumed was a simple hat-tip to Egyptian mummies due to the tattered ACE bandage pattern but it also had the added Easter Egg of extraneous sleeves at the hips that were tied at the waist like an extra cardi on a hot day. There were kohl-lined eyes on a cropped sweatsuit with menacing incisors and canines at the shirt hem but the finale—Jeremy's monster bride so to speak—was Lindsey, dressed in a jaw-dropping ensemble that I can only describe as Prehistoric Avian. The reveal was scored by B-52's "Rock Lobster" (strangely apt and Halloween-ish given all those organs) and was a feathery cross between that bird-thing named Douglas from Where The Wild Things Are, a Griffin, and a jaundiced Sully from Monsters Inc. Interestingly, it wasn't a onesie so much as it was a romper with a train in the back and thigh-high feather boots.

The crowd also featured a young and impossibly attractive energy. Leigh Lezark and Vampire Diaries' Kat Graham both showed up AS BLONDES. A$AP Ferg, Waka Flocka Flame and A$AP Rocky sat with Instagram bestie CL (from one of our FAVORITE K-pop groups 2NE1) who sat with Terry Richardson and the beautiful Natalia Kills (who was dashing off to Romania immediately after). A good time.
