Wow, did everyone call each other before the Golden Globes or something? From full mermaid skirts to sweetheart necklines to shades of red and eggplant, the trends tonight were specific, definite, and TOTALLY on-point. But despite the many undeniable style similarities that fluttered down the carpet mere hours ago, one stood out above the rest: black, black and yes, more black. It’s rare when 10-plus actresses (dudes, you’re excluded from this one) decide to rock an identical color palette, and we haven’t seen a color trend quite so striking since everyone decided to sport red at the 2011 Emmy’s. While the hue might be chalked up to the chilly January weather and admittedly not as eyepopping as, say, highlighter yellow, these 16 (!) ladies managed to make black ANYTHING but basic.

Just take Adele, who not only made her post-baby debut tonight but also snagged the award for Best Original Song, and she did it all looking gorge in a Burberry gown. Welcome back, Adele, we’ve missed you! There’s also Sarah Hyland, who just might earn bragging rights to best trend multitasking with her peplum-meets-mermaid dress by Max Azria. Yep, this 22-year-old is a force to be reckoned with. Another relatively new red carpet phenom is Zosia Mamet, who impressively managed to look simultaneously toned-down (lowkey makeup, nude lips) and striking in her leather paneled dress by Tony Ward Couture. She’s joined by fellow screen sirens like fellow Girls star Allison Williams, Kristen Wiig, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in going back to black in a cool new way. See ’em all below, and let us know who wore it best!
