With awards show season in full throttle and Fashion Week looming, it’s easy to get swept up in all the excitement stateside and forget that there’s a whole OTHER style game happening across the pond. Luckily last night we got a major reminder of the fashionable crew overseas, since some of our favorite U.K. musicians turned out at the 2013 Brit Awards— and looked amazing at that. Let’s start with Rita Ora, who was somehow simultaneously easygoing AND glamorous in her Diane von Furstenberg gown. The sequined embellishment might make this dress red carpet-appropriate, but the high-cut leg, the fishtail braid and Rita’s hot pink lips really cement the outfit’s cool factor.
Emeli Sande has always been one to show off her personal style, whether it’s choosing small statement peices or comfy performance outfits. At the event last night the musician went with a tried-and-true favorite— a body hugging pencil skirt. She paired it with a bird print blouse by Charlotte Taylor and a black leather moto jacket to keep the ensemble from looking too business, and we love the final product.
27-year-old songbird Paloma Faith is HUGE overseas for her soulful tracks like “Never Tear Us Apart”, and we think it’s about time this talented vocalist crossed the American radar as well. She’s got a refreshingly bold and daring fashion sense (headpieces, vintage hair rolls, and geometric silhouettes are typically the norm), and last night was no different. The Londoner may have kept things relatively minimal in her slinky champagne Vivienne Westwood number, but added a touch of kookiness with a white fascinator atop her red and blonde ’do.
Finally, there’s Jessie Ware, who we’re going to be hearing a LOT more of in the upcoming months. The British songstress has been compared to fellow powerhouses Adele and Florence Welch and has garnered critical acclaim for her debut album Devotion. Dressed in a black gown with floral embellishments, Jessie’s simple-yet-chic outfit last night was much like her music— quietly powerful, yet undeniably awesome.
