Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain, And More Receive Best Actress Nominations, Heat Up 2013 Oscars Red Carpet Fever

We love movies. We love them for their fashion, for their stories, but also for all of the glitz and glamour that surrounds them, including, of course, the red carpets. And what's the red carpet to end all red carpets? I mean we hardly even have to answer that question, do we? The Oscars, of course! Well, the nominations were announced yesterday (MTV News has the full list), and we're already chomping at the bit to see the dresses that float down the carpet come February 24th. With a best actress category that includes both Oscar veterans and newcomers, it's going to be a good year, we think. Between Jennifer Lawrence, who was nominated in the same category in 2011 and regularly appears all over MTV Style; Quvenzhané Wallis, who is the youngest person to ever be nominated for Best Actress at just 9 years old; and Emmanuelle Riva, who will be the oldest person nominated in the category at 85 years old, there are a lot of firsts and a lot of familiar faces. Jessica Chastain, who regularly tops our top looks lists and got a Supporting Actress nom last year, will be pulling out a killer look without a doubt; and Naomi Watts, who is a two time best actress nominee, always breaks out the old hollywood glamour. Let's take a look at some of our nominees past looks!

JENNIFER LAWRENCE

When she was nominated for Best Actress for her role in Winter's Bone in 2011, she became, at the time, the second youngest actress to be nominated in the category. She was just 20 years old. For her first Oscars, Jenny wore a super simple but super sultry long red Calvin Klein gown and kept her hair and makeup understated and youthful. She's been on many a red carpet since then, between other major movie roles and, of course, The Hunger Games series, but we think Jennifer will go with a similar approach to this year's awards. Like her character in Silver Linings Playbook, Jennifer isn't afraid to take risks, but she also has a style all her own. We would love to see her amp up the glam factor, maybe with some old Hollywood flourishes, but we're not sure how HER that would be. Nevertheless, we're sure she'll surprise us with her look.

QUVENZHANE WALLIS

Quvenzhané Wallis is the youngest Best Actress nominee EVER. EVER! At just 9 years old, Quvenzhané absolutely shattered audiences hearts with her role in Beasts of the Southern Wild, and if she wins, she will be the third youngest actress to win an award in any category. That's a lot of pressure for such a little person, we think! She's had some red carpet practice promoting her movie, though, and from what we've seen, she's a natural. The best accessory a kid can have on the carpet is a smile and to look like they're having fun, and she certainly does.

JESSICA CHASTAIN

Jessica Chastain had one of our top beauty looks of 2012 with her Oscars look from last year, when she was nominated in the Supporting Actress category for her role in The Help. With flawless skin and that fiery red hair, Jessica always brings the drama to the red carpet, while also making it look totally effortless. Her role in Zero Dark Thirty was significantly grittier than last year's, though, so we wonder if she'll amp up the risk factor on her look this year. Can you really get much more high drama than black and gold Oscar De La Renta though? We're not so sure.

EMMANUELLE RIVA

Emmanuelle Riva may be the oldest Best Actress nominee, but we all know that Advanced Style ain't nothing to mess around with. And she's french, so this is basically a done deal. The actress, who is best known for her leading role in the 1959 film Hiroshima Mon Amour, has been doing the Amour red carpets right, and isn't afraid of wearing color. We suspect she'll keep it bright and of course add that je ne sais quoi to whatever she wears on the carpet this year.

NAOMI WATTS

Naomi Watts has been taking some risks lately. In past years, she went old hollywood all the way, like in 2007 when she wore a yellow georgette Escada gown, period hair and stunning jewelry to the ceremony. As of late she's certainly been looking more modern, and has been going for sleeker styles, so we suspect Naomi will still bring that old Hollywood class to the carpet, but will make it look contemporary and surprising.
