We love Wildfox Couture (duh). We love Clueless (even bigger duh). So when we heard firsthand a few months ago that the L.A. label, beloved by Beyonce and Katy alike, is taking cues from Amy Heckling’s iconic ’95 flick for its newest collection, we had a really, really tough time keeping this a secret. Luckily the cat’s out of the bag, since the Wildfox girls have just unveiled the “Kids In America” Spring 2013 lookbook! And spoiler alert- it’s cute. With Cher, Dionne, and yes, even Tai as muses, how could it not be? Seriously, just LOOK at the spot on re-enactment above. The ’90s are back, people! But instead of Alaia, this time around it’s all about Wildfox.
This season, expect plenty of super comfy t-shirts as usual, but now the brand’s collection of cotton crewnecks comes stamped with quotable Clueless lines like “As If” and “Totally Bogus.” When we chatted with Kimberley Gordon last month, the designer told us her tees were intended to start conversations. and clearly this time around is no different. As she notes online, “I have always wanted to express something creatively that is more than just fashion, it’s a feeling, a lifestyle, it’s about being a girl. It’s capturing a moment. I think I felt it first when I was about 12 around when Clueless came out and I was so in love with the characters, I didn’t just love the clothes, I loved the girls who wore the clothes – which made me want to wear them even more.” Ditto! But first, we have to re-watch the hilarious tennis scene…
It’s not all just t-shirts. Expect a grungey-glam mashup (inspired by Tai, of course) with maxi dresses, floral prints, and ’90s graphics, giving us the perfect new wardrobe to usher in music festival season. We might not have Cher’s rad virtually-organized closet-OR be a supermodel– but if you ask us, this is the next best thing.
