Listen. We know Macklemore & Ryan Lewis uploaded the "Thrift Shop" music video to Ryan's Youtube channel just about three months ago. And that they have a new video for their new single "Same Love." We know that The Shark Face Gang rolls deep and bought up enough tickets to The Heist World Tour to sell out multiple huge domestic AND international city venues. And that the dudes are getting this all done without being signed to a major record label. Yet. If your playcount for this new album is creeping toward the triple digits, we feel you, and sure, this all may be old news. But for those of you unconverted Macklemore & Ryan Lewis fans out there, get ready for what is quite possibly more awesome (used as a noun) than you were prepared to digest this Thursday morning. We're breaking down their "Thrift Shop" music video (which is about, duh, THRIFTING)!

I'M GONNA POP SOME TAGS

Macklemore makes an entrance, riding in on (or rather, wheeled over by two ladies on either side of his) mini pedal bike wearing a GIGANTIC fur coat with faux tiger something or other happening across the the body. They're all toting Slurpees and mean-mugging, but the beat is high-energy and brassy. You just know this is going to be good.

THIS IS F****** AWESOME

BUHHHHH, ENTER RYAN LEWIS. Not only is dude ALSO rocking a giant fur, he just rolled up in a DELOREAN!!! Whichever of the directors (the vid has three: Jon Jon Augustavo, and the dynamic duo themselves) masterminded THAT detail? This is for you.

A tight shot of Macklemore's shoes takes us into the action. But wait, are those oxfords really thrifted? With all that delicate perforation and the woven textured upper panels and pristine condition? If this is the kind of stuff Macklemore finds on the daily, I'm taking notes.

Shot in Macklemore's hometown Seattle, the video features a bunch of his favorite thrifting spots from the Goodwill Seattle Outlet and Value Village to smallers spots like Red Light and Fremont Vintage Mall. This shot, on the other hand, was filmed in Seattle's Unicorn/Narwhal which is self-heralded as "one of Seattle's most uniquely loved drinkeries." More importantly, Macklemore is wearing a salmon pink fringed pullover vest.

Blink, and you might not recognize that this is actually a different fur coat than the one he was wearing in the open. Also, this time, he's wearing checkered Vans slip-ons. They're decidedly better for jumping on furniture.

Here, we see Macklemore explaining the dangers of used footwear with a sweaty instep. He does it while wearing a knit dog-print vest and a bolo tie.

Sure, he's wearing a Seattle Seahawks t-shirt under that bleach-dripped denim vest, but between a suede fringe collection that would shame John Wayne and that bolo tie we saw before, dude seems pretty into the Southwest, AMIRITE??

The lyric around this section goes, "They had a broken keyboard, I bought a broken keyboard," but we want to know: what do you do with a broken keyboard? Does Ryan Lewis know how to fix them? He doesn't seem too thrilled about the keyboard or thrifting in this scene. That deer sweater, though. Nailed it.

THEN, I BOUGHT A KNEE BOARD

This is just Macklemore in a life vest demonstrating the full spectrum of awesome (random?) gems that can be acquired while thrifting, a stylish penny-pinching activity that isn't just for Brooklyn anymore.

"AHH, HE GOT THE VELCROS"

This part is really interesting. The section goes, "I could take some Pro Wings, make them cool, sell those / The sneaker heads would be like "Ahh, he got the Velcros,'" meaning Macklemore would take a pair of used Pro Wings (already discounted sneakers sold by budget store Payless ShoeSource) and clean them up to the point where people, sneaker heads even, would be impressed and want them.

More leather fringe and he's talking about fur. Also, how do I get my paws on one of those JFK tapestries??

It's debated whether or not Macklemore is really claiming that he'd hit the club in a footie pajama onesie in this song. We don't have an answer, but we're also not sure it would be a bad look. We support whatever way. The man could wear a garbage bag, and we'd be into it, honestly. Because it would be the most swagged-out garbage bag with yellow caution tape fringe. Chart-topping album and no major label? The dude's career is DIY. Somewhat related, we really want to borrow Ryan's Pendleton-looking track jacket. I can haz, plz?

The song's not just about rummaging around looking for cool old stuff. Macklemore gets into the origin philosophy of his thrifting ways toward the end of his second verse, poking holes in the logic of paying $50+ for a t-shirt both economically and socially. You can't mack on a girl if your only game is what you're wearing and way less so if you're matching some other guy in the room. Plus, Macklemore punctuates all the lines in this section with Clay Davis's NSFW catchphrase, and there are TWO tips to Seattle in this shot: Ryan's (University of) Washington Huskies sweatshirt and dude on the left's blue Kurt Cobain face tee.
