Is it just us, or is this year’s American Music Awards looking a little…sweeter than usual? Yeah, it’s definitely NOT just us, and we’re chalking the saccharine vibe up to the girly dresses taking over the red carpet. Right off the bat there’s a MAJOR pale pink/nude/cream trend happening, with standbys like Taylor Swift and Carly Rae Jepsen rocking the look. Here’s the thing, though: we’re not THAT shocked to see these stars (known for their love of sugary-sweet ensembles) sporting feminine gowns, but when wild cards like Ke$ha get thrown into the mix? This is when you KNOW it’s a trend worth talking about!
If there’s one thing we’ve learned about Carly Rae Jepsen, it’s that the girl loves her sequins (Exhibit A and Exhibit B). So it shouldn’t be too much of a shocker that the Canadian singer opted for more all-over shimmer in a halter dress by Gomez Gracia. With a floor-skimming length and a body-hugging silhouette, she manages to work the formal number without making it look like she’s on her way to prom. Our girl Ke$ha also deserves some serious props for her unexpected look, going total makeunder status with a pink minidress and Old Hollywood waves. If it weren’t for her statement gold Karma El Khalil ear cuff , we wouldn’t even believe it was her! BRB while we go pick our jaws off the floor….
Another star taking the uber-feminine route is Ginnifer Goodwin, who’s giving a nod to the ’60s with a gorge embroidered dress by Oscar de la Renta. With a high neckline and a flared skirt, the outfit is pretty much perfection on its own. However, we’ve gotta admit: the actress’s cropped ’do and Twiggy-esque mod lashes REALLY send it all over the edge. Then there’s Hayden Panettiere, who brought the shine in an iridescent spaghetti strap frock with mini pleats. We’re digging the dress’s sweatheart neckline and complementary accessories, but what we love most is her beauty look. Pink lips + sunkissed skin + minimal eye makeup= so fresh, so clean, and SO pretty. Wrapping up tonight’s shimmery pale trend is the QUEEN of it all herself, Taylor Swift. She practically floated down the carpet in a sequined minidress by Zuhair Murad. Yes, this is the same designer responsible for those see-through ensembles Kristen Stewart worked last week…but don’t expect the same sheer action coming from here. Instead, Taylor’s dress is covered in delicate gold, bronze, and white beads and comes complete with a daring scoop back. Oh, and no red in sight! This is big, guys.
Whew! 5 stars, one trend. Who do you think worked pale pink/nude dresses best tonight?
