Celebrate 15 Years Of Destiny’s Child With 15 Iconic Outfits

Diligent Destiny’s Child fans already know that 2012 marks the 15th anniversary of the release of the group’s first single “No, No, No” which catapulted DC into household name status. Beyonce announced via her website, that DC would be releasing a commemorative album, called Playlist: The Very Best of Destiny’s Child, chock full of tracks from the group’s 15 years. Along with pumping out enough hits to secure their spot as one of the biggest girl groups of all time, Destiny’s Child was infamous for their seeeeeerious style game. In honor of the past 15 years of Bey, Kelly, Michelle, and yes, Farrah, LaTavia and LeToya, too, we rounded up 15 of DC’s iconic looks. Check ’em all out after the jump and just TRY not to get nostalgic.

1. BINDI BEAUTIES

Pretty sure we have Gwen Stefani to thank for the ’90s bindi trend, but that doesn’t mean we’ll ever forget the quadruple wink at Mumbai fashion.

2. BOLD BROCADE

Anyone have Tina Knowles’s phone number handy? I’m trying to track down LeToya’s pants from the archives because they are SO back.

3. SUMMER = SANDBLASTED DENIM

The many iterations of this red + super light denim look may or may not be single-handedly responsible for my entire middle school wardrobe: embroidered jean skirts, cut-off waistbands, and paisley bandanas pieced together into tops.

4. LEATHER LADIES

Only Kelly, Beyonce, and Michelle can make head-to-toe leather and sculpted bustier tops look this approachable. (BONUS: You can watch vintage footage of the girls getting ready for the 2000 MTV VMAs in our “House of Style” archive!)

5. G IS FOR GRAMMYS, GOLD, AND GREEN

This is just one example of a running theme in an era of Destiny’s Child style: shiny lace pants.

Remember TRL? *single tear* One time Destiny’s Child showed up promoting their Survivor album in all their Dallas-referential glory.

8. RARE MOMENT OF SIMPLICITY

It was always always cowl neck crop tops and hot pants for Destiny’s Child. They often also proved they could also do the demure thing.

9. INDEPENDENT WOMEN

Lucy Liu with my girl, Drew. Cameron D. and Destiny. Charlie’s Angels, come on. The gold lamé look is SO iconic of the Destiny’s Child “Independent Women” era.

10. ANGELIC AND ETHEREAL

The DC ladies went for gauzy white ensembles for a tribute performance for the late Aaliyah.

11. TEXAS FOREVER

Michelle, Beyonce, and Kelly have dipped into the fringed look more than a few times. This one even goes so far as to incorporated turquoise elements, really letting that Southwest flag fly.

12. GLITTER AND GLOVES

Because how can you lose with Destiny’s Child paying musical and sartorial tribute to the King of Pop?

13. STAR-SPANGLED BOTTOMS

Long before Katy Perry’s Obama nails and Bey and Jay were having dinner with the President, Destiny’s Child had these pants.

Even in the dead of winter, Kelly STILL gets a hot pants outfit. At least her shoulders are draped in fur?

Mimicking their many MANY awards, the ladies of Destiny’s Child look like statuettes themselves in this vision of soft honey gold and varied panels of lace and satin. What has been your favorite Destiny’s Child look of all time? Let us know in the comments below!
