Jay-Z closed his sold out 8-show inauguration of Brooklyn's Barclays Center last night with a ROARING crowd and jaw-dropping surprise appearance from international superstar wife Beyonce. The Carters put the final stamp on the "Home of the Brooklyn Nets" with a heart-warming encore performance of "Young Forever," but before Jigga even stepped on stage for Sunday's final show, he made headlines by taking the subway to the concert. Naturally, Jay opted for some equally head-turning togs for the out-of-the-ordinary (well, for a legendary emcee, that is) transportation move: a Jean-Michel Basquiat t-shirt from MTV Style favorite Deer Dana.
The tee is a collaboration with photo blog/curator The Impossible Cool and a great symbolic fit with Jay's BK-centric Barclays venture. Basquiat was born in Brooklyn and lived in Boerum Hill (a neighborhood adjacent to the current site of Barclays Center) for the first five years of his life. Deer Dana is an NY-based design house that prints unique celebrity/artist portraits on tees and totes. The simple shirt mimics the black and white color palette of Hova's Nets WHICH was inspired by *drumrolllll for the mind-blowing full-circle conclusion* the New York subway system. BOOM! *drops the mic and walks away*
