More than just a designer, Jean Paul Gaultier is a consummate showman. It’s safe to say that you can always count on his Paris Fashion Week shows to dazzle and straight-up entertain. This season was no exception, with JPG not only outfitting his models in gorgeous new Spring 2013 togs (fringed skirts, floral satin pants, latticed wireframe sleeves!!!) but ALSO styling them after iconic musicians. *Cue mental glitter bomb, exploding rainbows and Lisa Frank dolphins.* What does that mean exactly? Well, for starters, you get our House of Style hosts Joan Smalls and Karlie Kloss (both of whom also walked the Stella McCartney show this morning!) killing dead a sultry Sade and a braided Boy George respectively. And given JPG’s long-storied love of Madonna, there was no shortage of rosary-clad Madge tributes including this sheer black number showcased by the lovely Jessica Stam.

Madonna may be his main squeeze as far as muses go, but the tie between music and fashion is an ever-present one for Jean Paul Gaultier. In the past two years alone, he’s enlisted Beth Ditto as a star model, designed a collection inspired by the late Amy Winehouse, and who can forget “Gaga by Gaultier”? Sending a model done up like David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust and posing backstage with a gaggle of KISS lookalikes who sat front row is practically second nature for JPG. And what would a salute to iconic musicians be without a Micheal Jackson tribute? Rather than the actual threads of the late King of Pop that we saw during Philip Treacy’s Gaga-rific Spring 2013 show, Gaultier showed his own clothes (like this “Thriller” throwback luxe red satin jacket) in the style of MJ.
