It feels like just yesterday that our City girl Whitney Port made her first ever solo runway debut at NYFW, but when we stopped by her spring 2013 Whitney Eve show at the Lincoln Center, it already felt like she was an old pro. Her jam-packed show was filled with tons of muted pastel pieces that ranged from fringe maxi dresses to printed skinny jeans to floral-printed suits paired with uptempo tunes like Icona Pop’s “I Love It” and Ellie Goulding’s “Settle Down.” After oohing and ahhing over all her feminine yet not overtly sexy looks, we just had to catch up with the MTV star backstage to get ALL the deets on her collection. So, that’s exactly what we did!

MTV Style: Amazing show! What was your inspiration behind this season’s soft, feminine looks?
Whitney Port: It was all about rocks, natural elements, stones, prisms and diamonds in the prints, and a little more over-sized, baggy masculine silhouettes. So a little bit of ladylike meets tomboyish.
How’s it different from your last collection?
I think with each collection I’ve learned a lot more about fashion and design. I have added in this really special Seamless collection, which I’m really excited about—the diamond print leggings, pencil skirts—and I’ve never done denim before so I’m so excited about that.
Whoa, cool. How was it designing denim for the first time?
It was great! I love the denim. I did a printed denim, so that’s cool.
What music inspires you? What jams are you listening to while you design?
We LOVE Icona Pop! What are some of your favorite pieces from this season’s collection?
I love my denim—my printed denim. I love my pleated long skirt, and I love the white ruffle dress.
What was your beauty inspiration behind today’s runway looks?
Just natural, less is more. Dewy skin, and taupe-y, nude tones that complement the prints and the clothes.
