First off, whoa. When we hear the name “Vera Wang,” we immediately think of long, flowy pieces mostly, um, of the wedding gown variety. We can’t help it! Vera is just incredibly talented at creating the perfect dress silhouette, and when it comes to the big day, she SHINES. We peeped her spring 2012 NYFW collection today, and, man, we were HELLA surprised. We were expecting dreamy dresses and floral frocks, but instead we were hit with lots of—gasp—shorts. Now, don’t get us wrong—there were still quite a few dresses in the mix, but we couldn’t get over these ’90s-sportwear-meets-Victorian-lady ensembles. Most of Vera Wang’s looks were comprised of head-to-toe monochrome color, and we are SO into that. In the first look, she revamped a typical tuxedo jacket into high-neck, button-up peplum top, which she paired with skin-tight shorts that hit just above the knee. The entire ensemble was a glowing cobalt and teal brocade print that we LOVE, and the messy updo made the overall look less uptight.
In another monochrome ensemble, (hay, MTV House of Style host Joan Smalls!) Vera went for a more modern cut white tank COVERED in lace paired with matching shorts. For her last look, she decided to take the Victorian-style neck and transform it into a halter top with a sheer underlay. Gold baubles adorn the pockets, and a lime green brocade print makes this a must-have color for our spring wardrobe. Overall, we liked her cool-yet-covered-up collection, but what do you think—will you be channeling Vera’s vibe into next season’s looks?
