Womp alert: Florence Welch announced yesterday that she’s planning on taking a yearlong hiatus from music before tackling the followup to her 2011 album Ceremonials. The upcoming break is undoubtedly well-deserved (the girl has been BUSY!), but we’ve got to admit, it still comes as a disappointment to anyone who can’t go without a Florence fix. Luckily the U.K. songbird is softening the blow with some new material (she’s making cameos on the new Calvin Harris album) as well as a headlining slot at ACL before flying under the radar for the next 12 months. Although this definitely ISN’T the end of Florence and the Machine, we’ve rounded up some of the frontwoman’s most memorable outfits to give us plenty of style inspiration until she’s back.

Florence has always been known to turn up the drama onstage, whether it’s in sheer skirts, embellishments like beads, crystals, and jewels, or piles of fringe. She turned out this summer to the Britain Creates event in a black Julian McDonald gown from his FW12 collection. Considering she’s more likely to sport flowing maxi-dresses than bodycon miniskirts, the sheer bottom look is a perfect medium for the star. She worked a similar style at the Brit Awards in a delicately beaded Alexander McQueen dress back in February. Finally, who can possibly forget her gorgeous Chanel gown she wore while performing at the aquatic-themed SS12 runway show? With seaweed-like ribbon flowing from the silvery frock, the dress is so beautiful it’s burned into our fashion brains forever.

The 26-year-old singer (her birthday is today!) also loves a statement floral-print dress both onstage AND on the street. Despite the sweltering heat and unflattering humidity, she still looked amazing in an ethereal floor-length gown by Qatar-based fashion label Toujouri at Lollpalooza this summer. This style is clearly one that translates to daily life as well. While visiting BBC Radio 1’s ’Live Lounge’ back in November last year Florence wore a vintage-inspired dress courtesy of Brit brand Vilshenko. She paired it with a navy jacket, hat, and Mulberry bag (we’re mentally taking fall style notes here, guys…). Finally, she continues her Stevie Nicks streak in Nhaeem Khan at the KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas in 2011. Bottom line? Florence Welch + printed flowing dresses= perfection.

Although we’ve come to associate Flo with her bewitching gowns, the superstar also has a knack for working patterned pants and shorts like none other. There aren’t many ladies who would DARE to attempt the matching Moschino pantsuit she wore to the 2012 NME Awards, but you know what? Florence is a willowly 5’11” undeniably gorgeous, and wears these separates with loads of confidence. In other words, she totally kills it. Same goes for the Etro silk and patchwork jacket she sported in New York City this Spring, which she paired with cropped tailored pants. Not that you necessarily needed a reminder about why we love her so much, but we still had to include this shot of Flo goofing off at The Reading Festival. This is from way back in 2009, immediately after she released Lungs. Wearing a matching animal print blazer and shorts with a button-up blouse and oxford shoes, she looks like the coolest schoolgirl we’ve ever seen. Maybe it’s the John Lennon glasses or her huge, “I can’t believe I’m here” grin, but this early snap is just a hint at the style star she’s about to become.
