Is there anything better than a summer romance? Weekend beach trips, laying in the sand giggling over popsicles, holding hands in the waves, riding bikes around the city at night...oh wait, what was I saying? But seriously, summer love is awesome, and judging from the amount of picnic blanket canoodling we saw in the park this weekend, the season is ON. Of course who better to represent warm weather happiness than our favorite California power couple, Best Coast's Bethany Cosentino and Wavves' Nathan Williams? The two lovebirds are gracing the cover of Spin's July/August "Go Outside" Issue, and not only are they totally adorable, but they have killer style to match. The spread, which captures the real-life couple hiking one of their hometown of Los Angeles' many canyons, was photographed by Dan Martensen. When we say hiking, though, we don't really mean hiking. No short shorts and clunky boots for these two- Beth and Nate take to the hills in far more fabulous and flirty garb, and not only can you drool over it, but we have some pieces that you can actually buy to have it for yourself. An outfit to wear on your next outdoorsy date, sure to make the mercury rise even higher? Yes, please.
A white midi-length dress, floppy hat and stylin' shades are a perfect summer date look.

Bethany's simple canyon-lady look has the perfect balance of Stevie Nicks-style witchy woman cool and romantic softness- just what you want to wear when you're out with the too-cool-for-school object of your affection. Her dress is Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti, but we found a slightly more practical (certainly on your wallet) version at Urban Outfitters. The Kimchi Blue Silky Lace Hem Midi Dress ($99) is a breezy cream chiffon number, and, although it may not be what you want to wear tramping around in the dirt, you'd be right at home perched on a chair at a sidewalk cafe or lounging on that aforementioned blanket in the park in this one. Topped off with a light weight straw hat like the Patterned Brim Floppy Hat from Forever 21 ($12.80), and a pair of round statement sunnies like Warby Parker's Jasper frames ($95 without a prescription, $150 with), you're all set, both to protect sensitive skin from the sun, and to make the most of the longest days of the year. Add a swipe of a rose colored lipstick or balm, and you'll be 100% ready.
The key to dressing like a gentleman in the heat is to pair timeless workwear with more modern pieces.

To get Nathan's rugged yet polished look, gentlemen need look no further than some what are sure to be their standby brands already. His green pants offer a fashion-forward break from your standard blue jeans, and the twill and cotton 510 Super Skinny Monochrome Pants ($39.50, on sale!) are a more breathable alternative to heavy denim. The shirt in the photo is Nathan's own, but we suspect it's this very same American Apparel number, the Chambray Short Sleeve Button-Down Shirt in Black. His perfectly beat up boots are from another classic retailer, Dr. Martens, although the Pier in dark brown ($140) are a much less punk-rock take on the brand's classic, super heavy style (we like that). He finishes the look with some ultra slick all black round wire shades, like these Retro Round Sunglasses from Ralph Lauren Purple Label ($400), which, yes, are a splurge, but shades are something it's sometimes ok to shell out some cash for (they're protecting your pretty peepers, in addition to making you look cool, remember?).
What do you think of Nate and Bethany's summer couple style?
