There’s no doubt about it: bike shorts are tough to pull off. But after spotting them on the runways of designers like Alexander Wang and Richard Chai, we’ve been looking for an excuse to prove the haters wrong and rock the skin-tight spandex in real life-NOT just on the bike trail. Luckily, these amazing style bloggers are ready to teach us all how to incorporate this sporty staple into our wardrobe in cool and surprisingly fashionable ways (besides slipping them under too-short dresses, of course…) So whether you’re in the mood to dress girly, tomboyish, or somewhere in between, here’s a lesson in athletic attire for real life.

Minneapolis blogger Shannon Licari Walling makes her floral bike shorts the focal point of her outfit- it’s a good call, because they’re kind of amazing. Pairing them with an oversized gray t-shirt, a boyish blazer, and boots, this is a supercomfy outfit that anyone can stomp around in all day long. Throw on John Lennon-esque round glasses and a fringe bag, and ta-da! The result is perfectly bohemian, but NOT over the top.
Sabrina M. of After Drk.
Swedish style-setter Sabrina M. always has a huge online following, thanks to her easy, minimalist fashion sense, and her take on bike shorts is just as simple. We love how starts with basic black spandex (if they’re not in your closet, they should be!), throws on an XL tee (available for approximately $5 pretty much anywhere) and tops it all off with a big cardi for her coffee run. Don’t judge us if we wear this on our next trip to Starbucks, too…it’s just so cute, we have to copy.

Who knew? Bike shorts and maxi dresses actually work really well together. 24-year-old Norwegian photographer and blogger Mia proves it in her sheer American Apparel dress, wearing black shorts underneath for a little extra coverage (smart move!). It’s a chic look to begin with, but add her amazing DIY silver laceup wedges, and it’s bonafide street style brilliance. One word: obsessed.
