We’ve felt the subtle breeze of a ’90s revival in the air for a few seasons now, but never has its presence been so ubiquitous as now. From jumpsuits and chokers to waist-tied flannel shirts and now, FACE JEWELRY à la Katy Perry’s bindi this week, we’re pretty sure the resurgence of the dawn of the Information Age has officially reached full-steam. I mean, we know Katy was visiting India where bindis are commonly worn regardless of the era or fashion statement, but seeing her rocking it with her blue hair took us back to a young Gwen Stefani circa 1998 No Doubt. We saw a bit more of an exaggerated version late last year when both Ke$ha and Lady Gaga sported something we affectionately deemed “cupcake face”, but face jewelry was particularly unavoidable on the Fall/Winter 2012 runways.

Not necessarily in bindi form, face jewelry of all shapes, sizes, and styles made its way down the Fall Winter 2012 runways. At Miu Miu, circular mirror discs adorning the models’ domes in arches following their eyebrow lines and smaller ones accenting the inner corners of their eyes. At Ashish models were outfitted with a nose-to-ear-ring draped in colored chains and gold coins. Jeremy Scott’s Internet-inspired Fall/Winter 2012 collection found many of the models sporting neon bindis and other ocular ornaments, keeping with the season’s ’90s raver motif. Even classic Chanel threw their hat in the face jewelry ring with glitter encrusted eyebrows, hinting that bindis might just be the beginning. But we want to know what you think! Would you wear face jewelry?
