If there’s any designer who’s slowly taking over every aspect of our fash-obsessed worlds it’s Marc Jacobs. Not only does the man sell everything from thief-nabbing T-shirts and super cool 1940s military punk gear, he outfits the teensie toesies of one Blue Ivy Carter. And now, according to WWD, he’s ready to take over our face regions too, with a new makeup line in collaboration with everyone’s favorite beauty purveyor, Sephora.
As you know, MJ has become a bit of a fragrance king. Adding to his already blossoming (heh) line of bestsellers, including Daisy and Lola, he will soon launch Marc Jacobs Dot, a black and red ladybug-looking bottle containing notes of dragon fruit, berries, coconut, and vanilla. (Um, hello, DELICIOUS.) While promoting the new scent, he revealed his upcoming makeup line with Sephora, saying, “I see makeup, fragrance—everything, really—as an opportunity. The idea of choosing a color for your lip, or an eyeliner—it’s just such a delight. The ritual of waking up and making those choices is something people really enjoy.” We can only imagine what he will come up with in terms of packaging and colors. As he told the press, “We currently are working on defining what Marc Jacobs cosmetics will be, what they’ll say, what makes them distinctive. I think that will take some time, but the first meeting was good.”
What we’re seeing is sleek black packaging with streamlined white lettering that holds vivid shades of teals and crimsons or more delicate shades of lavender and blush. Or maybe packaging that’s a bit more colorful, with makeup shades that match his collections. What makes the MJ aesthetic so distinctive is that his Marc Jacobs collection is slightly older and more sophisticated but Marc by Marc is all about youthful energy. We think it would be awesome if he merged both of these lines into something completely bold and new for makeup, with packaging you might actually like to display rather than keep hidden in a purse or a drawer. Really, when all is said and done, aren’t we all total suckers for cute packaging? As long as there’s no pimped-out zebra-striped fur involved, we’re sure we’ll want it all.
