Happy spring! Not only have we said hello to a full hour more of sunshine every day, many of us are experiencing warmer-than-usual temps and, as a result, have started to pull out the spring threads. What's so exciting about spring styles this year is that there's an emphasis on sportswear (double emphasis on sports), which is a laid-back and comfy look that is totally easy to re-create. Many designers showed athletic-inspired collections for spring—from Kenzo's sun visors to Rag & Bone's surf chic—and thanks to our fave online stores, there's a wide variety of tank dresses, parachute jackets, and wedge booties to help get our game on. Be forewarned: Backpacks are BACK.
CATCH A WAVE
If there's one way to rock the sporty look, it's with a tank dress. While this is mos' def a mega body-conscious choice, we suggest pairing one with a slouchy pullover or tossing a jacket on to help break up the cinched-in effect of it all. We like this neon tangerine Nasty Gal x MINKPINK Amy Dress that features a typical swimmer's racerback cut in the front. The hot pink Forever 21 Zipper Front Colorblock Dress is also a fun choice and screams scuba. (Can one scream while scuba-ing? Something to ponder.) Bonus points if you wear this with Zinka stripes under your eyes too. If you're not into the body-con dress, though, go for this ASOS Jumpsuit in Wave Print, which is super cute, relaxed, and Kenzo-esque. Oh, and you're gonna need coverups for all of these looks. No worries, we got ya covered.
We're SO into sporty parkas with, like, EVERYTHING. Not only do they look rad with skinny jeans and tees, you can throw one over a dress for a chilled-out, hangs-with-skaters kind of vibe. We like the ASOS Scuba Parka, which is made of neoprene and makes you look like you're warming yourself up after a long morning floating underneath (nonexistent) waves. This Hieroglyphic Parachute Jacket by Topshop Unique is all kinds of YES too. Not only does it look like it's covered in lost Keith Haring graffiti, it has a cool, cropped early '90s tennis player shape that still feels modern. If more subdued is your game, we suggest Spiewak's Fort Green Windbreaker Jacket in that kind of green that looks amaze with dark denim, shorts, and little black dresses.
ASOS visor and color block backpack; Ash wedge sneakers.
Wanna do the sporty style thang but not really commit to an all-over sorta deal? No probs, accessorize with this ASOS Perspex Top Visor. We love how it's styled with a matching sweater and black shorts. We'd pair it with an ASOS Color Block Nylon Backpack in yellow, purple, green, and orange. But if there's one sporty accessory trend we're BALLISTIC over, it's the wedge sneaker. Y'allz, we gotta have these Ash Cool Bis Strap White Wedge Sneakers. I mean, RIGHT?! So good. We'd do Olympic-style track and field leaps over puddles in these pretties...or just wear them with slouchy trousers and a neon tank while watching the Olympics.
