Whew, it was a loooong 2012 Oscar night. From a fash parade of Best Dressed lovelies to Angelina Jolie’s leg workin’ the red carpet (and Oscar stage) like a seasoned pro, it was an evening full of style sensations and straight-up style shenanigans. And it didn’t stop with the actual awards show, either. As you know, there are many post-Oscar bashes to attend, and Elton John’s annual dinner, in support of the Elton John AIDS Foundation, is always a celeb- and musician-friendly fave. This year’s event drew everyone from Miley Cyrus and Sky Ferreira to Katy Perry and Nina Dobrev. Also? It was an evening awash in silver sparkle and matte black panache.
Ms. Cyrus stunned in a light gray Roberto Cavalli mega Hollywood glamour gown embellished with silver filigree and cascades of silk pooling to the floor. We don’t think we’ve seen the former Hannah Montana looking this grown-up before, wearing her hair in a lovely curly bob and accessorizing with both diamond chandelier earrings and Liam Hemsworth, and chalk it up to, well, growing up. Sky Ferreira chose a shiny, silver sleeveless gown pleated all the way to the floor. She paired it with over-the-shoulder blonde waves, dark crimson lips, and a perfected starlet pout. Katy Perry looked beatific in that blue bob we’re still totally enamored with and a sparkling silver Blumarine gown with circular shapes and a sheer bodice. Seriously, how gorge is this gal? We love that she always adds a pop of color (in this case, blue eye shadow to match her hair) and isn’t afraid to smile and look approachable. Also? She celebrated Oscar week by posing with Uggie the dog from the Oscar-winning film, The Artist.

Black is always the ubiquitous color (non-color?) of choice at awards shows and parties, and at the Elton John bash, we thought Nina Dobrev stunned in her fall 2012 J. Mendel gown. The cutouts at the shoulders and structured corset that fanned out into a mini-peplum gave the dress some modern edge while still accentuating the classic full-skirted drama of it all. Also? Look at this gigantasaurus, super thick side fishtail braid! It’s glorious and really makes this whole ensemble interesting. Adam Lambert always stands out with his more glammed-up outfits, but we loved this elegant three-piece suit with bow tie and spiked black hair. (THOSE EYEBROWS. #swoon) Rounding out the black dress brigade was the lovely Sarah Hyland and her sweet Collette Dinnigan cocktail dress with a tulle overlay and light lace frothing at the neckline. Both age-appropriate and elegant with a red satin clutch, matching lips, and platform peep-toes, we applaud this dark ladylike grace.
