Let's aaaall let out a giant, swoony, SIGH in honor of tonight's 2012 Oscars. It's the most GLAMOROUS evening in Hollywood, and the 84th Annual Academy Awards officially rounds out this year's back-to-back-to-back winter awards shows season. Today's brightest burning cinema stars from Shailene Woodley to Rooney Mara, Jennifer Lopez to Milla Jovovich, to Gwyneth Paltrow ALL took to the red carpet in dazzling, white-hot ensembles.
The Descendants pretty young thang Shailene Woodley hit the Oscars step-and-repeat in a striking, very covered up Valentino Couture gown. Long sleeves, ground-grazing length, and a crewneck were balanced with an über-fitted bodice with a large chest panel checkered with flirty peekaboo cutouts and swirly rosettes.
Onlookers went WILD when leading actress nominee Rooney Mara hit the red carpet in this stunning Givenchy gown. The dress's austere detailscrisp architecture, plunging neck, hard tailored bodice, and low latticed backwere softened by being almost ENTIRELY constructed of lace. Including a full loooooong flowing train of the frilly fabric.
J.Lo looked positively regal in this glistening Zuhair Murad gown. With stripes of see-through nude and white sequins radiating from her midsection, all eyes are drawn to her deep-dipping neckline. When Jenny presented awards for Best Costume Design and Best Makeup alongside Cameron Diaz, the internet just about EXPLODED with chatter about whether a "wardrobe malfunction" made the neckline ever more, erm, revealing. Also, the fact that Jenny looks straight-up SEWN INTO this thing. Those shoulder cutouts are super on-trend too.

Though she hit the red carpet interviews to promote her film Resident Evil: Retribution's upcoming release, Milla Jovovich looked decidedly angelic in a glittering one-shoulder Elie Saab gown. The deliberate construction and artful draping created beautiful lines, making our eyes soooo happy with the elegant geometry. Also, girl, let us borrow that matching Jacob & Co. jewelry because HAI, that rock on your finger is deliciously GINORMOUS.
While other ladies were shivering on what ended up being a chillier night than expected, Gwyneth Paltrow schooled them all with her gorgeous Tom Ford dress + cape ensemble. The addition of the unconventional outerwear is a huge red carpet risk, but one the Goop carries so well. The outfit's simple construction, tastefully void of embellishment, and markedy clean lines is complemented by her sleek side-parted low ponytail, natural makeup, and a jolt of drool-worthy ice on her right hand.
