Magazine covers excite then wither like the ebb and flow of a rollicking ocean tide. We get all worked up about the oncoming wave of a new actress or musician-adorned mag cover then forget all about it until the next titillating subject matter presents itself. Because information is delivered at lightning bolt-speed, when a fashion editor and famous person are spied sitting next to each other at an event or an actress in a ball gown stands next to a designer in Paris (hi, Kristen), we all begin to speculate on if there's a cover in the works. Usually, there is. Case in point, at New York Fashion Week last year, Nicki Minaj sat in the front row next to Anna Wintour at the Carolina Herrera show and we speculated that Minaj would be on a Vogue cover. Well, we were half right. Nicki M isn't on the cover, but she is featured in the March issue of Vogue with an in-depth interview. But more than that, SHE'S BLUE. Like totally and completely full out Smurfette BLUE. Let's discuss, shall we?

Shot by renowned fashion photog Steven Klein, Ms. M vamps it up in a pale pink curly wig, crimson Marilyn Monroe-esque dress, matching red gloves, and, well, a ton of blue makeup. It's as if she actually turned blue and brings to mind the deceased Miss Argentina character from the movie Beetlejuice. We're loving this look, though! It's a bizarre and arresting image that someone like Nicki M can truly pull off. Also, the interview with writer Lynn Yaeger reveals a different side of the hip-hop superstar. She opens up about her personal style, telling Yaeger, "If I can combine designer things with other things, I'm a happy camper." We're guessing the designer part comes in the form of accessories, because Miss Superbass spends a bazonkers amount of moolah on tipping out her tootsies. Minaj tells Vogue that she used to spend $50,000 a month on "Giuseppe, Versace, YSL, and Fendi shoes" and also admits that she "bought tons of Vuitton bags."

But Nicki Minaj isn't all about stepping out in the latest designer accoutrement; she's also into empowering young women. Aside from treating a bunch of fans to dinner at a local restaurant recently, she revealed that she has a foundation in the works. "The Nicki Minaj girl is a fun, artsy girl who can become a fierce force to be reckoned with on Wall Street!" she tells the magazine, "...I tell them, go to school, be ambitious." We can get behind those words, too. Hmmm, could a Nicki Minaj COURSE be in the works? With everything from tips on investing and managing finances to wearing monastic Versace? Sign us up!
