Alexander Wang is one of the fashion community's most celebrated young designers of late. At just 28 years old, he's already won a slew of awards including the 2008 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award and has grown his collection to being featured in over 200 stores. Fashion heavyweights like Anna Wintour and Carine Roitfeld are consistently vying for a spot in his front row at New York Fashion Week, and it's not hard to see why. Along with boundary-pushing fashions and a gift with leather and metal, Wang is a showman. And never was that more evident than at today's Fall 2012 runway presentation.

Rather than a traditional catwalk, Alexander Wang's show was set up in a large room of which models walked the perimeter. Story-high mirror blocks were placed strategically throughout the space while minimal overhead lighting was reflected and refracted across the stoney interior. Models traipsed out in rigid leathers, military silhouettes, and plenty of black, oxblood, and peroxide. Crosshatching and sterile shapes were major themes, along with necklines that extended all the way up and over the mouth into masks. Contagion chic.

Just when everyone thought the show was over, a SECOND round of models stormed the show all to the tune of Yeah Yeah Yeahs' "Rockers to Swallow." Carmen Kass and Shalom Harlow were among the top models to grace the Wang runway, but the exclamation mark to punctuate the show was the finale walk by Gisele Bündchen. The room was ABUZZ. From beginning (and honestly even BEFORE the beginning, that pre-show playlist of Ice Cube/Dre/Snoop/The Pharcyde et al. was superb) the Alexander Wang was more than just a parade of new clothes, it was a high production level show. It was perplexing and fascinating and entertaining all in one, and we hope that this sparks a trend among other designers because we could to-hooootally get used to it.
