There are garments so fabulous you need simple footwear to balance them out, to complement but not compete with the rest of the ensemble. And then there are outfits that, while beautiful and could certainly stand alone, are kicked up that extra notch by the perfect jaw-dropping pair of shoes. Shoe Update veterans Chloë Moretz, Selena Gomez, and Katy Perry know a thing or two about show-stopping footwear, and their shoe game during this week’s host of red carpet soirees was exceptional.
Chloë stepped out for the Jason Wu for Target private launch event clad in head-to-toe black and white. The Hugo starlet paired pieces from the actual Jason Wu for Target collection with this whimsical pair of Gianvito Rossi heels from the Spring/Summer 2012 collection. What we love most about these shoes, is the hint of mullet attitude from toe to heel with business (the bow) in the front and party (that weirdtresting inverted cape thing) in the back.
Selena seems to be getting punkier every day. First with the colored hair. Now with these star-studded Jeffrey Campbell booties. We like how the clunky ankle-grazers really toughen up her cropped coral blazer + floaty tank combo and winterize (if even slightly) those sandblasted cutoffs.
Katy Perry took maybe the biggest risk of the lot this week, though, as far as shoes go. The newly blue haired singer appeared at a Las Vegas charity event in these towering Alexander McQueen armour wedge sandals. If they look familiar to you, it’s because Nicki Minaj teetered on the very same design at the 2011 American Music Awards but had so much difficulty walking in them, she needed to change heels midway through the event. Perhaps THAT’S why Katy was clutching onto her buddy, jewelry designer Markus Molinari, all night!
