If there was one overwhelming trend the 2012 Golden Globes had going on, it was a serious case of the pales. Did all the stylists get together and party-phone this trend into existence or was this merely a coincidence? You could call it a parade of champagne, a pallid paradise, or a nakie-nudie FANTASIA OF FLESH TONES, but most of the dresses we spied this year were decidedly wan in the color department. Still, the ladies looked lovely!

If you squint your eyes while looking at Katharine McPhee, she totally transforms into Birthday Suit Barbie. Wearing a strapless midi, tea-length Donna Karan dress embellished with leaf-shaped sparkles and matching sky-high stiletto plats, we think she looks DAZZLING and ready for her Smash TV show. Sarah Hyland’s vintage, beige lace Dolce & Gabbana gown with a black lace trim at the waist may have suffered a zipper malfunction (which had her handlers pinning her back into it on the red carpet), but she carried herself like a lady through it all. Poise! Heidi Klum was all sorts of GORGE in a wispy nude Calvin Klein dress accentuated with turquoise panache courtesy of one MAYJAH necklace by Lorraine Schwartz. But we’re just getting started…there was a whole carnival of cream up in there, too.

Jessica Chastain wore a sleeveless, turtlenecked Givenchy gown embellished with pearls. A tough all-over color to pull off, we loved it against her alabaster complexion and pale ginger mane. Piper Perabo stunned in her mega-volume Theysken’s Theory gown that is neutral, gray, and puce-y all at the same time. Even though you can’t see them under the luminaria ball gown bottom, she’s tipped out in Tabitha Simmons heels, and, in general, we think her whole look is classic and daring at the same time. Also, killing it in a paler shade of winter white was Golden Globe nominee Shailene Woodley in her womanly Marchesa beaded gown that sparkled so much she didn’t need any fancy accessories. Shailene? You have officially arrived.

Jessica Biel was a total vision in creamy lace Elie Saab that had us envisioning her upcoming WEDDING DRESS SITUATION. (We’ve tried to zoom in on every angle to find her JT engagement ring, but we’re not certain she’s wearing it.) Kristen Wiig was wearing a total nakie-hued Bill Blass dress cut wayyyy down to her navel and accessorized in gold Fred Leighton jewelry and the most flattering shade of chestnut hair. Kate Beckinsale also caused a bit of a red carpet sensation (and later, a rousing moment for Seth Rogen) in super duper structured Roberto Cavalli. When you’re talking about a red carpet GOWN MOMENT, this is the kind of dress you typically see in your mind’s eye, waltzing across the crimson carpet with a perfect train and masterfully supported bodice, hair upswept to perfection, and jewels cascading from the lobes to the shoulder in all their sparkle glory. It’s pale, powerful, and perfect.

What say you, fashion folk? Did you like all of the pallor on the red carpet this year?
