We’re a GO anytime megastore Target teams up with a designer to deliver a covetable collection of high-end-looking fashion at totally low-end prices. (It’s kind of a no-brainer.) So when we heard that Jason Wu was designing a collection, we marked every calendar we could find with the launch date (Feb. 5) and started exercising our fingers to prepare for the onslaught of vulture shoppers we will undoubtedly encounter online when we attempt to purchase as many pieces as possible. Does anyone remember the black hole that was the Target for Missoni launch last September? Not only did it crash Target’s website, it caused fashion frenzies in the actual stores, the likes of which are typically reserved for Black Friday. We’re hoping people will chill a bit and embody the same ladylike spirit with which Mr. Wu has infused his collection. We’re hoping they take their sweet time when choosing any of his delightful dresses or MUST-HAVE kitty bags and scarves because we plan on swooping up this entire Parisian-inspired loot for ourselves.

We love the color palette Wu chose, specifically shades of gold and yellow mixed with blushing peach and the faintest of blues. The Textured Pleated-Front Gold Peplum Top ($32.99), above left, with the Black Pleated Full Circle Skirt ($29.99) and Black Clutch ($29.99) is a perfect office ensemble that doubles as date night wear. The Short-Sleeved Printed Cycle Dress with Pearls in Cream ($44.99) is all about springtime femininity with those fluttery sleeves and Jason Wu for Target accessories, including the Canvas Tote with Blue Stripe ($39.99) and Front-Flap Bag in Blue Floral ($39.99). There are several dresses in the collection, but the Pleated Shift Dress in Blush Stripes ($39.99), above right, is the quintessential look of the collection, as it reflects Wu’s intended nod to a modern girl in Paris. We’d wear this with a black leather moto jacket, booties, and accessorize with the Woven Mini Saddle Bag in Cream ($24.99)—maybe even throwing in a matching, crisscross manicure.

“By working with Target, I was able to create an accessible collection that reflects my sophisticated design aesthetic,” Wu says. Inspired by the thought of an American girl in Paris who is both modern and timeless, his collection includes separates that easily blend into your existing wardrobe. The Sleeveless Top with Sheer Panel in Navy Floral ($26.99) and Pleated Skirt in Navy Floral ($29.99), above left, are two such examples. Pair the top with a fuzzy cardigan and skinny jeans or throw a black turtleneck on with the skirt and add tights and heels for some fancy affair. The Long-Sleeved Sailor Sweater in Black/Cream Stripes ($32.99) is adorable and classic, as are the Cuffed Shorts in Navy ($24.99), which would also transition seamlessly into summer. But the Long-Sleeved Blouse in White with Black Ribbon ($34.99) and Black Pleated Full Circle Skirt ($29.99) combo is all about modern Parisian romance, and we will NOT let either of these items out of our clutches on launch day. Isn’t it a super cool and vaguely Alexa Chung-ish sort of look?

Last but not least, we must mention Milu, the mischievous black cat. Wu came up with Milu as a sort of illustrated mascot for the collection, and she appears with her red string bow on both the Cat Tote in Cream ($39.99) as well as the Cat Scarf ($19.99). All of the accessories in the collection—including the Straw and Canvas Clutch in Cream ($29.99)—are perfect for enlivening your spring staples with a bit of Parisian panache. So what are you waiting for? Start exercising those spending fingers NOW.
