We can’t get enough of Elle Fanning here at MTV Style. Every time we spy some new street style photo of her looking resplendent in a cute dress and ballet flats or walking the red carpet in Chanel, we spend time oohing and aahing over it in way that is probably borderline creepy. (We love you, Elle!) For such a young age, Miss Fanning already has her own sense of style, and we look forward to watching it evolve throughout her teen years. One label that she seems to align herself with is another of our faves, too, and that’s Rodarte. Sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy have cultivated a wildly original line that continues to wow the fash-masses. What’s more, they enjoy frequent collaborations with stores like Opening Ceremony and with magazines such as Lula. They recently collaborated with A Magazine to curate an issue centering on themes involving their home state of California as well as their collections. Lucky for us, there’s an ENTIRE SHOOT featuring Elle wearing Rodarte’s spring 2012 couture collection in places like a lonely pool or in the confines of a 1960s-style bathroom. Oh, and did we mention there’s also some Pearl Jam and psychedelic surf boards thrown in for good measure?
Shot by Bill Owens, the spread features Elle wearing a variety of Rodarte gowns topped with everything from daisy chains, grandma cardigans, and MEGA jewels to flower-rimmed sunglasses, Converse high-tops, and the prettiest pastel surfboard we’ve ever seen. It’s very ’90s grunge meets Valley Girl kewl. Elle is no stranger to Rodarte’s couture confections; she wore a silver sequined Rodarte dress for W magazine and looked grown-up and elegant while doing so. But we prefer the more hodgepodge-y way of wearing these intricate gowns with found pieces. It’s like she’s playing dress up in her sassy grandmother’s midcentury house. We’re particularly fond of the ’90s influences and are glad to see Elle pairing her high-end couture with the Pearl Jam concert T-shirt we recommended. For more of the shoot, check out Rodarte’s Facebook page . And if you’re wanting to get your hands on a signed, limited-edition copy of A Magazine Curated by Rodarte, they will be available at select J. Crew stores in January.
