In the few short years that Madewell has opened across the country and online, it has become the new go-to for relaxed, style-minded basics. Honestly, we don't know what we'd do without them, their fantastic sales, nor their perfect jeans. J.Crew's younger, cooler sister consistently produces pieces you want to own, items that you can layer or build upon to create a unique look. And thanks to the fine folks over at Lucky magazine, who got an exclusive sneak-peek at the spring 2012 collection, we'll get to look forward to longer prairie skirts, hyper color mix 'n' match prints, and subtle shots of neon in the warmer months. What's more, there were plenty of ensembles that can inspire what we're all wearing right now too.

We're loving the rugged denim shirt paired with a bright, printed red midi skirt above. With that mottled cardigan and some boots and tights, this look is good to go for winter (but we'll look forward to those woven platform sandals come springtime). One of our collective resolutions for 2012 is to wear more color, and, thankfully, Madewell will help us out with bright blue color-blocked shirts and shoes. Electric blue goes with just about everything—including neutrals—and we like the pairing with faded denim, a yellow belt, messy hair, and oversized red bag. And this tonal white-on-white cutout blouse and prairie skirt combo with tribal necklace and those red sandal plats? Want it. All. Perfect for looking dressy while still being totally comfortable.

There's a cutesy femininity to some of Madewell's looks (floral prints and the use of drapey scarf-as-accessory), but they always seem to edge it out in some way. Case in point, appointing style-slaya Alexa Chung to design a collection. But much like this purple outfit, above left, they take a real stylist's approach to mixing stuff up. It wouldn't immediately strike us to put this multi-stripe sweater over this more wallpaper-y skirt, but sure, it works! Also, this mini golf green dress is suuuupa duuupa sweet. And with the scruffy brown half-cowboy booties and tassel-rimmed scarf? DONEZO. We're totally wearing this on a brunch date some sunny Sunday in, oh, FOREVER (or whenever Mother Nature decides to give us some warmth). But, really, you could toss some navy tights and a schoolboy blazer over this bizness and call it a day.

OK, hi, NEON YELLOW. You are just the color we need this spring to A) shake us out of our winter doldrums, B) satisfy our New Year's resolution to wear more color, and C) look awesome and vaguely style blogger-y. We'll admit it, white is a hard "color" to pull off. Besides the risk of getting dirty in the concrete urban jungle or with an inevitably jumpy glass of red wine, there's this weird fallacy that certain people don't look good in it. But when paired with neon yellow? This is a YES. Throw this yellow shirt and white sweater over jeans and add some booties for winter. Come spring, we'll be springing for these bright yellow flats fo' sure, but in the meantime, just adding a hint of yellow to your wardrobe will infuse it with sunniness. The same can be said for this black and white striped tank dress. Even though this model appears to have no need for this sweater other than for a deliberate draping effect around le shoulders for that certain Parisian je ne sais quoi look, we say, "Throw that sweater ON, girl!" Because that's just what we'd do right now if we were wearing this.
