The Best Celebrity Endorsed Products Of 2011

Sure, we can cop a certain celebs’ style or emulate their beauty game, but when our favorite artist actually COSIGNS a product it’s a whoooole other story. Now we can dress like them, paint our nails like them, and even smell like them. (Kinda creepy, eh?) But between all the killer clothing collabs, fragrance releases, and fashion lines, haven’t you wondered which products are ACTUALLY worth buying? Luckily, we’ve sorted that allll out for you—we picked the top ten celebrity endorsed/collab’d stuff from 2011 that you need to want.

It couldn’t be more fitting that Katy Perry, one of THE masters of the nail art game, chose to work with OPI for a collection of glittery, shimmery, and crackle polishes. The nail colors were named after all of her songs (“Last Friday Night,” “The One That Got Away“) and featured a black crackle top coat that (at the time) was REVOLUTIONARY. She was a pioneer of bringing crackle polish the forefront of finger fashion, and for that, we salute her. (The next OPI collaborator Nicki Minaj ALSO added crackle in her line as well. That makes TWO cosigns on crackle.)

There’s no reason why “It Girl” Alexa Chung WOULDN’T make clothes given that everyone wants to dress like her. This fall, Chung returned with a second collaboration with Madewell filled with tons of darling pieces like suede motorcycle jackets, palm-printed dresses, and, of course leopard printed booties. The collection was so WILDLY popular that some products sold out in a matter of minutes, with a launch party that drew out all sorts of celeb friends wearing the line. Overall, we’d call this collection a success, except for, well, the fact that we didn’t personally get our hands on some key pieces (though some are still available here). But WE COOL, ALEXA. WE COOL.

Gwen Stefani stays on-point with her L.A.M.B. collection season after season and now her supercute Harajuku Mini Collection for Target is similarly admired, but what we adore most is her Harajuku Lovers fragrances. This year, Gwen released “Super G” who is “a true superhero, [who] stops crimes against fashion without getting a hair out of place!” And, um, judging by that AMAZING tiny outfit, we have little doubt that she could kick some ass. WANT those glasses.

Ever since New York magazine dubbed Jessica SimpsonThe $1 Billion Girl,” we’ve been keeping a closer eye on the entire Jessica Simpson Collection. And you know what? It’s DAMNED good—most notably her shoes. Some women swear by her comfy-yet-sexy platform pumps, claiming that they are (secretly) freakishly comfortable. Even if you have a hard time putting the words “Jessica Simpson” and “designer” in the same sentence, you gotta give it up for the girl who could BUY AND SELL YOU PEOPLE with the chips she’s stacking from these stacked heels. GET IT J.!

When Justin Bieber released his first fragrance “Someday” back in May, we thought it was brilliant. The marketing ploy that is Justin Bieber creating a perfume for what he likes ladies to smell like? PURE GOLD. People can roll their eyes all they want at the Biebs launching a perfume, but when our pals at MTV Buzzworthy took to the streets in a single-blind, masked bottle study, PEOPLE TOTALLY DUG IT. Mere weeks ago, high-fash haters ate it when WWD named it the “Fragrance of the Year,” vaunting it from “just another celeb perfume” to a “history-making scent.” If you want in on the smelly stuff, you can pick it up at Macy’s.

If there’s one person who oozes aloof swag, it’s Kid Cudi. We’ve always admired his nonchalantly expensive outerwear game so we were STOKED when we found out that he’d be working with Surface to Air on a four-piece leather collection. His black leather jackets for men and women are contoured, highly detailed, and come with a pop of red for an extra touch of badassness. If we had the scrill to snatch one of these puppies up we totally would but since we can’t, we’ll do the next best thing—put it on our Best Celebrity Products of 2011 list, obvs. It makes us feel closer…

Lauren Conrad’s been BUSY. You’d think since her Hills days ended she’d be livin’ it up on the West Coast, but she’s been so involved in ALL aspects of the fashion biz that we can barely keep up. Her LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s line is on (what seems like) its hundredth banner season, and this year she launched Paper Crown a selection that she designed from top-to-bottom. The line is an equal mix of sweet, gorgeous and fun and carries everything from mod Peter Pan collared jackets to flirty summer dresses to cozy knits. Ms. Conrad nailed it as you can see in the above photo and psssst, you can buy this Paper Crown skirt and top right here!

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are pwning the fashion world (Newsweek said so, even if we are paraphrasing) and as much as we pshaw at the prospect of $39,000 alligator backpacks, the one thing we cannot front on is the business model of their personalized tee website called StyleMint where you can get a bunch of exceptionally cute and cozy style for $30. Sweet deal.

If a celeb wants to really sell a fragrance all they need is a killer scent, lots of promotion and a SUPPPERR amazing campaign. Rihanna nailed it on all three levels when she released Reb’l Fleur in January of this year. Her scent? Delicious. Promotion? EVERY-FREAKING-WHERE. Campaign? Smoldering! She wore and open pink silk blazer with no shirt underneath paired with bright red retro waves and mile-long eyelashes. Perfect.

Chloë Sevigny has been an indie darling/cool girl since the ’90s, so it was only a matter of time before she released her first-ever resort collection (with a runway show, too!) for Opening Ceremony. She hit it out of the park with her intricate laser-cut leather dresses, ’90s-throwback streetwear, and high-to-low ruffle skirts. She epitomizes that ethos of making stuff you’d wear yourself, which we love. Can you imagine just loading up on your own samples? Le sigh.
