You probably noticed it yourself, but we’re going to officially give Justin Bieber’s THREE different outfits AND hairstyles he sported up and down last night’s 2011 American Music Awards their propers. It seems the secret to staying relevant in the world of pop music is to be in a constant state of metamorphosis. We’ve seen it a gazillion times—superstar artists like Madonna, Michael Jackson, and Britney Spears shape-shifting and reinventing with each new album, single, performance. As more and more budding musicians are wising up to the tried-and-true success mantra, the stakes grow higher—artists are trying to roll out a new look between every time you blink your eyes. Though recently this is a job that’s been dominated by the ladies (HAYYY, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, and Lady Gaga), the Biebs is carving out a place for himself among the other chameleons with three compleeeetely different looks in one awards show.
We flipped our ish when Bieber and gorgeous girlfriend Selena Gomez showed up on the red carpet in these inspired Gatsby-channeling old Hollywood looks. The luxurious fabrics, that pristine hidden placket top and SWAGSWAGSWAG velvet three-piece suit were almost too much to handle. And to top it off with a slicked over deep side-part? We were buckled over in so much shock and seriously good fashion-induced joy.
Then, Justin took to the stage for a spirited performance of “Under The Mistletoe,” for which he changed his outfit. A wardrobe switch for a performance isn’t wholly unexpected, so we saw this one coming. Being one of the first acts of the night, though, we were downright dumbstruck by the swiftness with which the Bieber Style Team switched his shellacked down ’do into the more natural casual style we’re used to seeing. Justin wore matching red-and-white all-leather (or at least PU synthetic leather) streetwear separates—white in the front, red in the back. We were captivated by Bieber’s jacket, namely the TIERED action and faux-button-back closure.
After that, we lost Justin for a little. Camera pans back to Selena in the audience framed her singing along to performances with Taylor Swift (sidenote: ADORABLE!!!), but Bieber was nowhere to be found. It wasn’t until LMFAO’s finale performance we saw him again, and WOWWIEWOWWEE was it worth the wait. Biebs got to shufflin’ in head-to-toe LMFAO gear: a “Sexy And I Know It” cut-off tee with multiple different animal prints filling the block letters, bright yellow zebra-print skinnies with zippered pockets, and pristine “Party Rock” slip-ons. His hair underwent yet another transformation, this time into a gelled up front-flip—something we’re veeeery tempted to call a “Bieber Blowout.” The best news is that you could conceivably cop Bieber’s entire outfit here for your own shufflin’/beach week/party rock adventures via LMFAO’s Party Rock Clothing. Which Bieber look do you like best?
