If there's anyone who's become a style-slaying red carpet mainstay, it's Katy Perry. She ALWAYS kicks it out full-throttle in multiple outfits that always make us both gasp and smile. Also? She doesn't care about showing off her teeth in photos (LOVE). At this year's American Music Awards, Miss Purrrrrry dazzled in a trifecta of bright pink hair-topped looks that conjured up everything from a retro pinup to a Judy Jetson folk singer. Y'all, the looks were high-class BANANAS (like, the pricey organic variety), and they were accessorized in the prettiest of retro-glam 1940s hairstyles. Not to play favorites or anything, but Katy P rocks her décolletage like nobody's biz. Let's break this frothy strawberry milkshake action down, shall we?
Katy sashayed down the red carpet in a strapless Vivienne Westwood gown that cinched along the torso and draped all along her contours to the floor, allowing just a peek of her electric blue peep-toes. You can barely see it here, but the bodice is speckled in iridescent sequins that make the dress glisten while also playing up the haphazard print. What truly makes this outfit stand out, though, is her Pepto pink hair, which is teased into a classic updo that showcases a Vivienne Westwood hairpiece woven into it. It looks like geometric ice crystals, and they add a bit of texture to the sleeker look of her overall ensemble. Alternately, Katy chose to wear a Furne One pink crystal-adorned leotard with a see-through tulle skirt overlay while sitting in the AMA audience. Again, the bodice of the outfit showed off a bare décolletage and was splattered with hundreds of pink and black sparkles to the waist. The skirt was tied with a black velvet ribbon and then flowed out and down to the floor. It was a cheeky yet elegant look elevated by pink jewels dangling from her ears.
Katy's space-age, rubberized performance gown by her stylist, Johnny Wujek, was a hands-down favorite of the night simply because it was so bizarre and fun. The top half was all about stiff Judy Jetson-style shoulders in light pink that were attached to a darker pink, suctioned-in top that had a peephole in the middle and lighter pink cutouts. The dress then completely changed directions and entered typical pretty-gown territory. There was pink fabric wrapped around her torso and then a more voluminous skirt pouring out underneath. The whole bottom half was adorned in sparkles, and when Katy wore this onstage to perform a stripped-down version of her new single "The One That Got Away," she actually looked otherworldly and supernaturally tall while strumming her matching pink guitar. She's a true CALIFORNIA DREAM, and we bow down to her always fun, always interesting, always stylish awards show prowess.
